Icon5 A Metformin/RE Question

Okay, here's the background info to my question. LOL As most of you know, I've been waiting for my DH's SA tests to get done and to get the results back. By the time we meet with the RE to discuss the results and for her to suggest a treatment plan, I will have been on Metformin for about a month and a half.

So I've been trying my darndest not to think about TTC lately, since things have kinda been on hold for several months now. BUT...my DH had to work this whole weekend and my mind has started to wander.

Here's my question:

Did your RE make you wait until Metformin started your period before he/she began your treatment/meds?

Because I don't know if I can wait that long! Especially since they haven't really confirmed the diagnosis of PCOS with me yet! And without meds, I only get my period 3-4 times a year....so I really have no idea when AF should be here!

I am so totally stressing over this!!!!

Hey Heidi!!
I will try to answer your ??.
My Re made me be on the Metformin for at least one month before starting IF meds. They said they want it in your system for at least one month. Shortly after my 45 day cycles were shorten to like 31 days!! That was so exicting. I dunno if they will make you wait until you start a new cycle, hopefully not since you don't have them very often. I know with me they wanted to me to call the office with my new cycle and then I started the new treatment plan. Maybe they could give you some Provera or something to help AF's arrival. To my knowledge they usually want to start the meds with a new cycle, but in your situation hopefully/surely they will give you something to get things *flowing*. I hope that helps a little and sorry I couldn't be of more help. Maybe just put a call into the office and tell them your situation and ask them what they want to do that way you will know for sure. Try not to stress too much about it and let us know what you find out!
Take care,
Nessa

Heidi i wish i held the answer for you on this one...I have not been on metformin, but as Nessa said, if you are waiting for AF then ask your RE to put you on Provera...In Jan we were waiting for AF to arrive, and of course she didn't after 3 weeks of waiting, RE was concerned and called me, he made me take Pg test to be sure not miracle had happened, then when confirmed negative he put me on provera, and then treatment started....He believes that i was so obsessed with AF to arrive that i delayed her, the mind is a crazy thing i tell ya....Like we can't obsess over our dreams!
Call your RE, get some answers girlie, you'll feel better for it.

With me they waited for the new cycle, but with the Metformin My cycles are normal, 30 days sometimes 28 since I started taking it, before my cycles were kind of crazy between 36 and 42 days...

So metformin regulates you?

Now i realize every RE has their own protocol but my cycles were anywhere from 21 days to 45 days, nuts that i have never heard of Metformin until now.
