Icon8 Grrrrr.....uti!!!!

Greetings,

Sorry for the TMI but I need some advice as have suffered all my life with gosh darn UTI's. I have been to the doctor so many times and done some much research with regard to them BUT nothing helps they just seem to keep happening. I get so frustrated as they are so painful and it makes my DH feel bad. He keeps saying I am allergic to him. Since I was a little girl I have been very prone to getting them but since I have become sexual active it’s like they have become 1000 times worse.

This is my 4th one since June of this year

I know all the tricks I am supposed to do....after DTD I need to get up and go pee right away, I need to rinse or shower right away and I need to drink lots of water at all times & Cranberry juice (this has never really help me) I do all these things but it does not seem to help. I have to say this is one of the most frustrating things and it makes both my DH and I feel so bad. I think part of the craziness is that I do not get one every time we are together but I for sure get them more then I should.

I feel so bad as I hate the effect it has our my hubby I hate that he feels guilty and like he is doing something wrong. I just wish I had a normal body.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to prevent them? I have heard other mention them before and I have been lucky this last month and a half but then last night one struck. I called my Doc office and luckily they are squeezing me in (they are sooo nice at this new office - my new ob - he was booked solid but they told me come in right after lunch and they would make sure he would personal see me ) My old office would never have done that....they actual tried to make me wait 2-3 days when I was worried about my cramping. It’s nice to have a doc office who actual cares.

Thanks for your advice in advance.

I"m so sorry. I hate UTIs and I don't get them that much but I did when I was pregnant with my son. It was awful. I'm also sorry your hubby thinks its him that has to be awful for you and him---that he thnks that. How are you doing otherwise? When is the next OB visit and/or U/s?

Hi Amanda,
Sorry you both are going through this, especially right now when you should be enjoying your pregnancy. Now i have never had a uti, but my friend had a few when she was pregnant and gets them constantly also, i believe i remember her telling me of something she did to prevent, i will talk to her tomorrow, so if you do not get any answers by then i will certainly let you know what i find out. Keep your chin up girlie!
Take care!

Thanks everyone!!! I just get so frustrated and very tired of getting them so often. They are so painful and make you so uncomfortable.

My doc was so nice but had a challenge with me finding a med to work while I am PG. I am allergic to a lot of different meds including penicillin. General if you are allergic to that they use sulfa drugs but sulfa is a NO NO during PG. So the doc had to find something that would work on my infection, get rid of it but not hurt the baby. He read through a few different commonly used meds for UTI's and finally decided on one. Then explained that there are three sections that drugs tend to fall in....1. Safe during PG, 2. NOT safe during PG and 3. Unknown or not enough studies done yet to guarantee safety.

So the med's he gave me are in category 3.......arg. He said it was a very commonly used med for UTI's and that there were no bad effects reported during pg but he could not 100% guarantee anything. But he felt it was our best option as we defiantly needed to treat the infection.

The pharmacist made me feel a bit better as he also looked up the drug and asked how far along I was and they said that this med would be fine as it is only recommend not to take in the last few weeks of your PG. So here is hoping they are right and everything will be ok. All I know is that I need to get rid of this dang infection.

The doc then told me he would like to track my UTI’s and see how often I get them and if they are quite frequent then we will come up with a plan to try and help prevent them. He is a new doc to me sooo he wants to wait and see for him self....which I understand but it also is frustrating. I told him it is cased from sex and that in a few weeks my DH has to head home so we will not have this issue after he is gone BUT I told him they would be back once we are back together. He said he still would like to track them first to get a better idea of how my body is going to handle things and he also told me that my PG could change things up a bit. So I guess I will have to wait. BUT I am very open to the course of prevention he mentions....he said he can prescribe a low dowse med that I can take the day we DTD and then two days after and they general stops the infections from happening. Man I so would LOVE to not have to worry about getting these and if I need to take a few pills to do it….it is sooo worth it. Unfortinalty this is very common and lots of women have this issues......I feel bad for each and everyone who does....HOLY MAN it’s horrible.

Sorry for the LONG post!!!
