Icon5 Femara & Ovidrel

Greetings,

I happily found this message board by researching info on Femara. I have never tried any kind of fertility treatment till this month. I am neverus and very excited but scared to get my hopes up too much.

I have struggled with infertility for years. I have been diagnosed with Endometriosis and last month had laparoscopic surgery to clean up all the scar tissue. My Doc says everything looks really good and he put me on Femara (on what by fluke happened to be day 4 of my cycle) when I had my follow up appointment with him. I went back on day 11 for an ultra sound and found that I had one mature follicle and one that should by with in a few days (it was just a little on the small side).

He then gave me a prescription for Ovidrel and I was advised to take the injection on the morning of day 13. Based on the info from my doctor this places everything in the right place at the right time and if things work how they should I should be able to celebrate in two weeks. If not I get to start the process over. This is going to be the longest two weeks of my life!!!!

Has anyone else been on these two drugs? Have you had any success? Does anyone have any advice?

I am trying to be positive and keep my stress low but it’s hard. I hate the waiting.

Thank you for taking the time to read this very long post!!!

Hi Constance- and Welcome~ I think I was the new kid on the block before you arrived- and just so happens I am on the same meds too.
I just started my third cycle of Femara and this will be my 2nd cycle with the ovidrel. So far- no pregnancies, but I am hopeful. I have had no side effects from the femara, and the ovidrel was a piece of cake as well. If you are doing insemination, you can expect some cramping, almost like having bad menstrual cramps. Also- don't be suprised if your cycle ends a little earlier than normal. I generally have a 27-29 day cycle, but the past two months have been 25 day cycles.
Believe me, this board is the best support system I have found. My husband is great, my family too- but these ladies are in the same boat as you and I and it just seems to help more to have someone going through it with you. You know you are never alone here.

Good luck~ hope you don't hang around long~
Mary Beth

Hi Mary Beth,

Thank you for posting. It’s very nice to know others are going through the same thing (wow that sounds bad....its truly not meant too). What I mean is that you are very right family and friends can only help so much, I love them all dearly but they truly do not fully understand the ups and downs like someone experience the same thing. This has been such a roller coaster ride so far and I know I am just starting the treatment part of it all but I have been struggling for years on my own and with only having surgery to keep my endo under control. For me time seems to be slipping away and now I am worried about being older. I am 31 and do not want to be too much older when I conceive. I truly hope this works.

We are not at the insemination phase yet. My doctor basically set it up so we knew when everything would be in place then he said you must have mandatory sex these days then any other time was optional. I still giggle to my self at that. I have never been told to have mandatory sex before.

I did not know that your cycle could be shorter. Thank you for that information. I have a longer cycle normally ranging from 30-33 days. I did not notice any side effects from the Femara but 1 and ½ days after the Ovidrel shoot I had some cramping. But I just took it that I was ovulating as I seem to experience that on a normal month when I ovulate. However I know I do not ovulate every month. We are just hoping that now that my uterus is scar tissue free and we had all the peaces together at the right time that we have a good chance of it working.

Thanks again for the support. Sorry to ramble…..it’s just nice to talk to someone that fully understands.

Hopefully,
Amanda

Hi and Welcome,
I have done Femara and Loved it!! Femara alone wasn't enough for me, but def. is for alot of women. I added some Follistim-injections with femara and ended up with four mature follicles and did Novarel similiar to Oviderel and still ended with a negative. So, now I am having the lap done tommorrow RE supects endo as well as pcos I also had a blocked tube on the HSG so hopefully they will clear that up its blocked again. Nervous about the lap because I have to return to work on Monday. But I just wanted to say welcome and Femara can be a great thing, get to bd'ing and best wishes on BFP!!

Welcome Amanda
When I did Femara I didn't do the Ovridel at that time.
I moved on to injectables now and also Ovridel. Ovridel is very easy.

Good luck with your cycle.

Hello,

I'm at the 'just Femara' stage so far, but wanted to say Welcome! I really like Femara, since it has little side effects and makes me Ovulate! Hope you have success very soon!

Amanda! I see the ladies have done a great job of welcoming you and passing on their experiences. My name is Shannon and I am one of the hosts. I am just not able to be on daily - consistently anyway - for a little while. These ladies are awesome. I no longer use Femara and only used it by itself, the 3 years I did take it (off and on). My problem ended up being something that Femara wouldn't have "fixed". We didn't know that until my 3rd m/c when my OB sent me to a top RE in our state and they did just the right test to find it. 2 weeks later I was PG. I'm very glad you have joined us and wish you much success with Femara/Ovidrel . Keep us posted on your cycles so we can help you get through that dreaded 2WW.
