Default Did you try Clomid first, and if so could you tell me....

Hi.

I am approaching a cycle of Clomid/injectables, with a HCG trigger. Clomid from 3-7, Bravelle injs day 9, 11, trigger on 12

I am reading more and more about the success of Femara and I am wondering if I should ask my doc to change from clomid to femara.

Can you tell me If you used clomid first why you changed to Femara, and if you think it is much better like I've been reading?

a little background.

I do ovulate with Clomid. I had two cycles of successful Clomid. Success in that I DID ovulate. the 2nd was a BFP but ended in miscarriage.

My husband is deployed to Afghanistan and will be home in September for 18 days when we will be TTc with the above protocol. No time to do IUI as the drive to the RE's is almost 5 hours each way and we don't want to be in the car every other day for scans and tests and procedures.

( I'll have monitoring from a local doc here who works with our RE)

Anyway when I miscarried I thought it was due to low progesterone, I still think that, but I'm wondering if it wasn't that my lining was thinned from the Clomid. I know that progesterone levels do effect the lining as well, perhaps I am grasping at straws, but I just want to do as much research and make the best decision possible in time for DH's R&R.

Thanks for any answers or insight!

Hi,
I did Clomid for 3 months, as you can see from my siggy, it didn't work. I was unmonitored on it, but I don't believe I ovulated on it because I didn't get any symptoms of O. Then I went to an RE who put me on Femara by itself, and I O'd the first month and ever since! He said he prefers Femara because he has better success with it. It also leaves your body MUCH earlier than Clomid, and as you mentioned, does not thin your uterus lining. Some docs are leary about using it, as it is not considered a fertility medication yet, but I've read many recent articles dispelling the claim that it causes birth defects, but is actually a little safer than Clomid. (articles my RE told me to look at) If I can find them again, I'll post the links! Hope this helps!

Here we go:

http://www.muhc.ca/media/news/?ItemID=19908

The last one mentions Dr. Casper, who my RE said to look up.

I haven't looked at the links yet, but it would seem to me that the rate at which Femara leaves the body (like 45 hours) as compared to the sometimes 9 weeks it takes the clomid to be metabolized would make it a Lot less likely to cause birth defects, as by the time the egg is fertilized and implanted the femara would be long gone. If the above times are true then a woman could be 10 weeks pregnant before the clomid is gone.

Thanks a BUNCH for the info and the links!
