After 16 days of waiting for results, I finally found out today that they contaminated my amnio sample and couldn't get the sample to grow cells so they could do the DNA work-up. To say I'm frustrated is beyond words. So my choices are to wait another 2 weeks to "see" if they might be able to get something to grow - when it's already been 2 1/2 weeks or redo the amnio. I told the nurse, I prefered to just redo the amnio asap. I just hope they can get me in by the beginning of next week so I can get this over with.

On a good note, a friend from my DIJune board said to ask for the FISH (rapid results - 3 day) test. It will give me answers I'm most interested in - the 3 trisomy disorders and a gender confirmation. So hopefully I can get that test done and my wait won't be quite as long.

HOLY MAN.....that’s most frustrating!!!! Sorry Shannon!!! I would have them re-do it too.....the waiting is always the WORST!!! I hope you get some news soon and it’s positive. Keep us posted....I have been thinking about you and was going to ask if you had heard.

Ohh Shannon I'm so sorry I can just imagine how you are feeling And I agree with you, best to do it again now than keep waiting and end up having to do again... I know that in the end the results will be good and you will just be able to enjoy this little miracle inside you with your mind free! Big hugs!!!!

Update ~ My doc does not want to redo my amnio. He feels it is just too big a risk to the pregnancy. I was very disappointed to hear that, but he is willing to have me come in to discuss other options and I go in on Tuesday at 1:20 for that. From my research, I'm pretty well screwed on any tests other than u/s to look for markers. I'm already 22 weeks which is the deadline on the blood test screenings and the nuchal translucency should have been done way earlier, so when I opted for the amnio originally I passed on that too. So it looks like this pregnancy is going to be a faith test for me.

With that said, ever since I woke up this morning I have had an unbelievable peacefullness even after hearing that he didn't want to repeat the amnio. I didn't break down into a million pieces like I did when I was waiting on the amnio results. Of course they can continue to work with the amnio sample they have - although the chances of it growing are pretty slim. I relaly think that if I can just get one more detailed u/s focusing on all the "markers" and find them all ok, then I'll be able to totally rest and enjoy the next 3 1/2 months.
