Any comments or thoughts? What do you do for diaper pail odor? Is it worth getting some deo-discs or some odor spray or anything? Or can you use something household-y? I am getting ready to place my order...

I just use a wal-mart flip top trashcan with a swaddlebees or similar pail liner/wet bag (I think cottonbabies might have the bummis totes? same thing... it's like the bag you put your sleeping bag into, really!). If I don't plan on washing for 2 days due to some family event, I sprinkle about a tablespoon of borax (laundry soap stuff... a huge box at walmart is like $3) into the bottom. Never had any smell issues. This is called a "closed dry pail"... I used to do an open-pail with no issues, but then again I have a HUGE open room that made this possible (kitchen,dining,LR), with lots of air flow. Now that I wash every other day more often, I use a lid and just brace myself when I open it

ETA: you don't NEED a pail liner, but they are nice, cause you can just dump your dipes in the wash and then turn the bag inside out and wash it too! It's also nice on trips, for staying @ hotels, to put your dirty laundry into... I've had a bag of clothes tossed by room service on one vacation and lemme tell ya, that will NOT happen again lol!

I have some of the newborn contours for DS2... I've used them on DS1 though, they work pretty good aside from being too small, lol! (I got them when I found out I was pg and DS was already 14 months old or so)

I use a flip top trash can like the bigger one here...



It's nice since it has a lift out liner with a handle, so when it's time to wash I just lift out the liner (with the garbage bag and diapers) and take it to the washer and dump it in.

I just put a kitchen sized garbage bag in it, but I'm going to look into what Sunny has so I don't have to use so many garbage bags...why haven't I thought of that before????

I don't have a problem with odor as long as the lid is on....it's a pretty tight fit with the garbage bag. I've never used a deo-disk or anything like that.

It is official. I am a CDing momma! The diapers are all washed and in use! Nicholas seemed a little grumpy at first about the extra bulk but now he doesn't seem t care. So on the adventure we go.

Thank you! That is helpful. I did fold down the back last time and it worked much better. Is your snappi a toddler size? I tried the snappy again. We will see. I struggled to get it tight enough around his legs. But since I only have 2 bummis covers I would like him to go without a cover on occaion. HE is sleeping in a prefold with snappi and plastic pants over top since both his covers were drying.

People seem to rave over green mountain prefolds. So I was thinking about trying some of them. Not sure yet. I think instead of getting a couple fitteds I am going to get a couple pockets instead. Our boys seem to be simliar shape. Yours may be a little taller though so I will look at the pockets you mentioned.

You kinda have to pull pull pull and then pull some more, while the leg is DOWN, on the waist flaps... and then snappi...

I use a baby snappi, toddler size would wrap around to his back!! His waist is SUPER tiny though. I meant to take a pic of him with an infant prefold, snappi'd, but I spaced that I don't do that often as it only holds 1 pee but I do it around the house as well because it involves no folding over effort or anything Anyway, here's instructions on how to do THAT (she uses pins, but it's the same concept)

Interesting....Why do you fold it down in the back and front? I always just fold down the front (to the inside, not the outside). Just wondering if there was a reason or if that's just the way you learned. I tried folding in the front and the back earlier today and my way seems sooo much easier....probably only because I've been in the habit of doing it my way for 5 years now. Hard to teach an old dog new tricks

Also do you prefold the diapers or fold as you need them. I always prefold mine so I just grab one like I would a disposable.

I fold as I use them...

The reason I fold down in the back is b/c they are SO HUGE on him. With my indian prefolds that are about 3" shorter I don't have to... otherwise when I fold down in the front I can't get a secure fit.

It also keeps runny poo from creeping up the back when he's in a carseat

Hummm. I've never had a problem with leaking. I have the same diapers that you have with the blue trim and have used them on Lauren since she was tiny. She's still pretty tiny at 20 pounds. Oh well, I guess there's no right way to do it....just whatever works for your own baby.

I have not gotten a bigger pail yet, but I did get a hanging wetbag to store my pee dipes from Leslie's Boutique - Specializing in Fuzzi Bunz cloth diapers and designer baby clothes. She has great bags and they have a tab in them for putting essential oils on (to help with smell issues). I have a big one that fits quite a bit. I also remove my inserts from my pocket dipes before I put them in the pail or bag. It helps with the smell a little and I'm not reaching in a ton of dipes on wash day. I hope all of the new ladies to cloth love it! I am so psyched because my DD is already showing interest in the potty! And at 16 months I have all of the diapers she will need! I also have material to make her more just because I need to have more dipes for her! Oh, and we use cloth wipes. I have some I bought and some I made. I never sewed before, and am teaching myself, it is so much fun to use something I made on her! With my cloth wipes I just wet them when I go to use them with a mix of mostly water and a touch of baby oil and baby wash. I use 1 for most poops as compared to 5 sposie ones! Just another thing to think about!
Time to change her prefold (embellished with fleece by me) and get the dipes out of the dryer... it's the only laundry I enjoy doing !

Oh yeah. I forgot about the cloth wipes....I use those too. My mom made me a bunch.

I also made my own liners. I got a yard of polar fleece that was on the clearance rack and just cut it into rectangles to fit into the diaper.....it doesn't ravel so there was no need to sew. That keeps them "feeling" dry.

I use the fleece liners at night otherwise I let him feel wet (and change as soon as he's wet obviously). I'm in that "other" camp of mamas

I am still using sposie wipes though, even though I want to use cloth wipes. I need to get some REAL cloth wipes b/c I've used ghetto cloth wipes before and they didn't quite work out. But I'd probably still use sposie wipes when out. I know a lot of moms keep dry wipes nearby, and instead of dipping them in the stuff, they spray the baby's butt... I can totally see DS LOVING that! So I'll probably try that

What is the difference between fleece and polar fleece?

I'm not really sure. All I know is that the thing I found on how to make your own fleece liners said to use polar fleece and that is what I found on the clearance rack. I think any fleece will work. I think I have read that you can even use an old sweatshirt.
