Potty Training
We haven't done a single thing towards pt w/Cam. We have a little potty that we used w/Kade (had it out sometime around when he turned 2, but just for show. ) but haven't gotten it out even. Heck, we'd actually meant to get rid of it altogether.
When Kaden decided to pt he did awesome w/the little potty. We were so proud!!! Until the little potty turned into our nemesis--he wouldn't go anywhere else at all. Not even w/his potty ring. It was quite a long struggle, and when he finally did give it up (he "gave" it to Santa to give to another little boy) we swore we were going to get rid of it and never use one again. It was THAT bad trying to get him to transition to the big potty. We just couldn't imagine dealing w/all that again!
Well, it got stuck on a shelf in Cam's closet and forgotten about. I'm debating whether or not to try it again or just skip the little potty and go straight to the potty ring when we do start (a looooong time from now). What do you think?

Re: Potty Training
My daughter never used a little potty. She just wanted to use the big people one with the insert on it. We'll do the same thing with zach. It takes less space and i think the kids feel more grown up.

Re: Potty Training
The more I think about it, I think I'm going to skip the whole little potty chair this time around. I think it'll make our lives easier!

Re: Potty Training
We will probably go with a potty seat. I think a potty chair is going to be too much work when the time comes, especially for little Miss High-n-Mighty Diva.
Plus, if she doesn't see everyone else using it, she'd probably refuse. She's very observant about who does what and wants to be like everyone else in the family, lol.

Re: Potty Training
I think we're going to use a potty ring...mainly b/c he's just too big for most of the potty chair's I've seen.

Re: Potty Training
We use both, Makenna is doing pretty well about telling us when she wants to sit on the potty to poop and she doesn't seem to care which potty it is.

Re: Potty Training
We just bought a potty chair this weekend. Not that I think Sam's ready or anything, but I just wanted him to start sitting on it and being familiar. I definitely will need to help Sam get used to BOTH the little and big potty...thanks for that tip. Sam's pretty easy-going about that kind of stuff, so here's hoping it continues.
That being said, he still doesn't tell me if he's poopy...so I don't think we'll be pt-ing for awhile at least.

Re: Potty Training
We've never used a little potty, either! Just a ring insert thing... it wasn't for the reasons you mention, though, mostly just because I've never liked the idea of having a nasty little poo place that I can't simply flush. Keep water in there? Dump, rinse, wash, blah blah blah. I like the "small-ness" of them, but can't get over the "ick" factor.
For the record, we haven't even *mentioned* going on the potty or started thinking about actually doing something about starting pt-ing. I think it's great that some of you are actually making progress in that area!

Re: Potty Training
We have a little potty chair but I just bought a potty ring from amazon. Grace tries to climb on the big toilet so I should have just bought the ring a long time ago. I'm worried about her little tushie fitting on the ring properly. She's tiny....don't want her to fall in. Eeekkk!

Re: Potty Training
We never had a potty chair. We used a ring and it worked well for C, and O is already using it. In fact, C started going #1 standing up when he was just 18 mo. It was actually so much easier. O goes now on the seat without the ring sometimes - just because I have the one for the downstairs bathroom still put away somewhere and haven't taken the time to find it yet. She's cool having us just hold her on the potty while she goes, and she's quick. We put a little plastic adhesive hook next to both toilets to hang the potty seats - I hated having them sitting around on the floor. I'm rambling....

Re: Potty Training
Brynna uses both without really a preference for one or the other. She will also go on the big potty without the insert if we are in a store, at my parents' house, etc. We hear a lot of "Yuck" in our house if Brynna pees or poops in her diaper, but she's still not ready to go without it yet. She sits on the potty 3-4 times/day and probably uses it 1-2 times/day. But I'm just keeping her interested and waiting for it to "click" one day. She definitely feels the need to poop, but I think the pee surprises her most of the time.
Julie- I hope you like the potty ring. Brynna is a peanut too and she fits fine on ours.

Re: Potty Training
We're going with the little potty chair for now, Anna's still barely interested. In fact, she's regressed, she was going at least once or twice a day for a while there, and then she went on a run where she refused to even sit, and if we could coax her to sit she wouldn't do anything. So we dropped it altogether for a few weeks, and now that I'm off for the summer I thought I'd try it again - this time with candy! Anna's never had a candy in her life but she knows what it is from her Signing Time DVDs, so I told her she could have a candy if she went potty. She peed this morning and a gave her a Skittle - well I think I opened up Pandora's box!
She went pee again in the afternoon, sitting on the potty chanting "A purple one! A purple one!" for the color of Skittle she wanted when she was done. But then after supper she sat and sat forever, produced nothing, ran off naked into the kitchen asking for candy and peed all over the floor. So I put her diaper on and then she pooped too! So yeah, she is not ready to really train but I'm keeping her interested like Tera is (though as opposed to Anna, Brynna is doing really great!) until the day it clicks!

Re: Potty Training
Matt uses both a little potty and a potty ring. He doesn't really have a preference. He has a folding potty ring that he uses in stores, etc. I haven't started with Caiti and probably won't till she really seems ready. I waited till matt was three and seemed really ready and he was completely trained within a week of starting it and with no huge amount of effort on my part. So I think I will wait with Caiti too.
