Default Ingrown toenails

Anyone else dealing with this?

Yet again he has both toes flared up. He was at the IL's for 2 weeks and came back with them starting. I dug them out the night he got home and there was no drainage, but took him to the pedi as a precaution.

Didn't see our regular pedi, but the doc questioned how short his toe nails were--have to keep them short or else they rip. He recommended that we feed Austin Jello daily.

Also gave us an ointment to put on 3x day, keep him in socks and wash his feet with dial soap.

Anyone else have any advice? They say he will grow out of this eventually, and it's just his big toes that we have problems with.

The tick is when keeping them short, do not cut the corners short. I don't cut down the sides. I just round them so they are not sharp. It does not look funny and it will still be short on the top to keep from ripping. That is how I cut mine and my kiddos. I hope his toes get better soon!

The gelatin to strengthen the nails! You don't remember that trick from high school?

Ali...when I had all sorts of probs last year with my OWN ingrown toenail, I had my podiatrist look at Sam's (since they were getting ingrown too). He also said to let them grow longer (impossible, since he was crawling at the time and they snagged on EVERYTHING). But, now that he's in shoes, he can wear them a little longer and it's not as bad. Do you think Austin's shoes are too small?

Marissa had them too on both big toes. I think it was b/c her shoes were too small. We were a bit late in getting her the next size up, but now that we have, and also cuz she's wearing sandals a lot, they seem to be clearing up on their own.

Never heard of the jello thing before... maybe I should introduce it to her...
