Vision problems with Clomid
I am going to do some research online but thought I'd check with you ladies too. I've read a few posts over the past couple of weeks where women were seeing "tracers" and when they told their doctor then they were immediately ordered to not take clomid anymore. I am not sure what "tracers" are but I've definitely been having some vision issues. For a month or so I can see gray things floating in my vision...i don't really notice them unless I am looking at the computer...if I don't focus in on them then it doesn't really bother me.
Well...since I've started taking the 150mg pills I've noticed something else....at night in dim lighting I see things in my peripheral vision...hard to describe but like lines that flash. I only notice it when I am in my room at night with just the TV going and no lights on...I notice it most when I get up to walk across the room.
Here's my question....I know it says that clomid can cause blurry vision BUT why are some women pulled off it? Will this cause permanent damage to my eyes or is what I am experiencing only temporary and will go away when the clomid is out of my system?
Thanks!

Re: Vision problems with Clomid
Okay...I've done a little research & it sounds like the vision problems can be pretty serious! I'm not taking any chances at permanently harming my vision...I have scheduled an exam for Fri, June 6th. I see my dr. on Wed of that same week for a follicle scan so I am going to get her opinion as well.
This may be the end of clomid for me.
Here are a couple of things I found on the web...
"I work at a medical office and in one of the medical journals we have, it mentions that retinal hemorrages and retinal detachments, as well as a host of other retinal and vision problems, have been documented as serious side effects of Clomid. I have been on Clomid therapy for 4 cycles, the second one being interrupted for emergency retinal surgery for a detachment that baffled doctors. I also had to have surgery on my other retina as well. My doctor (Gyn) was aware of this, and continued to prescribe the Clomid to me. I am curious as to why he did this and can get no response from him. Nearly losing my eyesight at thirty was very upsetting to me and I feel that it should have been looked into more closely. My eye doctors were very shocked that a woman my age had a detachment and deterioration of both retinas with no obvious trauma."
“All notes about clomid express that if there are visual disturbances the drug is to be stopped immediately.”

Re: Vision problems with Clomid
Hi Stephany.
I had vision issues on clomid as well. Floaters, tracers, and I had color issues in my periphery (paper would look yellow, people would look blue). I mentioned it to my RE, she looked shocked and said I was immediately off it. She said she wouldn't prescribe it to me again, even if we came back to ttc #2. If you are having visual issues, I would definitely let your doc know and look into some alternatives! Good luck!

Re: Vision problems with Clomid
I have no vission s/e but have heard many people (like both of you) that have. I only took one month, at 50mg so that may not be enough to do much to me. My worst s/e was the hot flashes....geesh! those were bad...
i would get off of it too if it started to happen to me.

Re: Vision problems with Clomid
Hi, new to this site. TTC 2yrs ago 3 cycles clomid. Time out due to personal problems. Now due to start the dreaded clomid again. Thing is i had bad sight problems on it with photosensivity being the main problem. When stimulated by light i could see a continuation of everything my eyes caught when i moved them, for example (this sounds weird) but things followed on like this (((((((((((((((((((( so if it was my hand i wave (and i tested it many a night) i saw ten black shadows of my hand!! It cleared up when clomid finished and eye test showed no change in my eyes from 3 yrs previous. I never mentioned it to doctor but will before i restart, what are the alternatives to clomid??
Thanks (any advice appreciated)

Re: Vision problems with Clomid
this is really shocking, i've just never heard of this kind of thing with Clomid... i just looked at the notes that came with my scrip for 100 mg and they mention blurred vision as something that should be reported immediately, but nothing else. i'm feeling a little alarmed now.

Re: Vision problems with Clomid
I wouldnt panic its only 1% or so statistics which got vision problems, typically i'd be in that %. My sight improved like i said and eye test showed no permanent damage, i have to say i will mention it to Gyn but if he allows i will at least try another month, if it reoccurs then i'll discontinue use. Its just not knowing how and why it affects the sight this way and if it can cause long term damage. thats what i need to ask. The other serious affect is enlarged ovaries and i read an account were one patient had this, they waited until ovaries returned to normal and then restarted her on clomid so how serious are these "serious effects" and why ? Just feel very vague information supplied. Does anyone know of alternatives to clomid? My appointment is on 6th of August so i will keep you posted if i find out anything before you. Meanwhile on ovulation has anyone heard how FLAXSEED is supposed to increase ovulation? It actually does work, or it was concidence !!!! But i google searched it when i ovulated on a cycle of every 41 days 3 cycles in a row compared to annovulation every cycle. The only change to my diet was Flaxseed and Betahistine (vertigo) On my search i found Bethastine not only linked to dizziness but to weight loss!!! and Flaxseed to ovulation !!!! DP says im getting a bit carried away since starting ttc.

Re: Vision problems with Clomid
I am so glad I found this post the other day. My Dh is on Clomid to help increase his sperm counts. The last week or so he has been making comments about seeing flaters out of the side of his eye. I called our RE and they said for him to start taking it everyday instead of every other day and for him to come in for a SA right away to see if it's helped him at all. If not there taking him off clomid next week. So once again I am so happy I found this

Re: Vision problems with Clomid
Appointment with new fertility doc on 6th aug took me off clomid - eyes symptoms he said are one of the serious ones they stop treatment because of. im now scheduled for IUI. Be careful if experiencing any eyesight problems, mine was photosensitivity.
