Default New here (but not to SK!)

Hi everyone,

I am going to start Clomid after this cycle ends, and this is all so new to me. I dont even know what half of these abbreviations mean! I was wondering if there is a particular site or post that will help introduce me to clomid? I don't know what to expect at all. I heard moodiness is a huge side effect. If anyone can shed some light as to what I'm getting into I'd greatly appreciate it!

I was active in DIN 05, and I am blessed with a beautiful, healthy, and happy son, James, who is now 17 months. We weren't TTC him, but now that we were going to start TTC#2, I found out I have a luteal phase defect. Figures, right? We were going to start TTC in August, but now I think we are rearranging everything knowing we're probably going to have difficulty.

TIA so much. I'm so new to this, a little scared, and very anxious!

Hi and welcome!

This is my 2nd cycle on clomid and although I didn't have much other than a little break out with the first cycle I did notice some severe moodiness the last day of the course this time and the two days following. I was shocked by the way that I felt this time, especially since last time was a breeze. I really hope it works for you and that you don't have too many effects but beware if you do.

I took my trigger shot today so I should be ovulating tomarrow. I am also on clomid (50 mg) because of LD. Just an FYI....I still had a 10 day LD with clomid last cycle, so eventhough it was better and boarderline according to the doc., it's still short. I do know that I did ovulate though because of a temp rise on my Fertility Friend chart.(sign up of the FF website if you haven't already- it is so useful) I will have to go in as soon as I get a BFP (big fat positive), to have my progesterone checked. I would suggest that for you too. The clomid is supposed to help the follicles mature enough to produce enough progesterone after you ovulate but in some cases you still may need a supplement after a BFP. I know some women will get it after they ovulate but my doc says he normally does not do it that way, though he will need to check it and possibly give me a supplement when I become pregnant.

Good luck to you! What days are you taking your pills? What dose will you be on?

Thanks for responding!

I don't even know dosage yet because I have to go in to the doc to find out more within the first 3 days of my period (due next week... but then again, I'm never regular). He just told me over the phone that I will start clomid then, and he'll explain more at that time. I'm just trying to reduce some of this stress by finding out as much as I can.

I guess history-wise I have never been regular in my life. I got pregnant in Jan 05 without really TTC, and had James. Since stopping BFing, I never resumed normal cycles. I went to the OB b/c I had a cyst rupture and I wanted to make sure all was well... he did a slew of labs, and then I had the endometial biopsy confirming LPD. So that's where I'm at. I'm not overweight, but I was underweight for much of the last 10 years (except since the pregnancy!) so I don't know if that had anything to do with it.

The only other thing I know so far is my progesterone was super low, 0.5 he told me.

A few more Qs: Do I need an OPK? I'm guessing I'll take the pills for either 3-7 or 5-9 from what I've gathered. Also, I work 3 nights a week from 7pm to 7am, so I don't know how that's going to screw up my charting. Any suggestions?

Thanks so much! I hope to learn much more and go on to have another baby soon. GL to you too!

Megs
I am new here also. I will be starting clomid again next cycle. I just took my last pill Saturday so I'm not really sure when AF will show up. I will be taking clomid 50mg cd 3-7. I am not doing a trigger shot just testing with OPK. I would think that you will be using them. I wouldn't buy any until you go back to your doctors. The first doctor I had would give them to me so I didn't have to buy them. I work at a hospital and work 7pm-7am and I was never able to chart. If you sleep the same on your days off as you do when you work then they should work. Best of luck to you!!!!

Well, that might be a problem. There's nothing regular to my sleep schedule. With my 17 month old, I only sleep from about 12-3 on the days I work, and regular on my days off. I'll bring this up to my OB, but do you think this will be just a problem with charting or with the meds in general?

TIA! I wish you luck too!

Megs-As far as the medications you shouldn't have any problem. Working nightshift actually helped me because they would always get me in first appt so I never had to wait. It will cause a problem with your charting. You need to do that at the same time every day. I don't know much about it as I was never able to do it. I know that a bunch of ladies on here chart so hopefully they will be able to help some. Best of luck to you!!!! You son James is an angel. I hope that he has a little brother or sister (or both ) soon.
