Default Metformin and Clomid Question

I just have a question about Metformin. When I take it I get really constipated and I can feel the Metformin building up in my system. The first month I stopped taking it but got better results than the second month when I didn't take it. Clomid didn't work much on its own. So I thought I would try and take it again starting this month and bare with it. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if so how they dealt with it.

Hi Debbie,

That's unusual, I think most people have the opposite problem with metformin. Did you build up to the dose you are on? Sometimes it can help to take 500mg for a week, then move to 1000mg.

There are studies that indicate that women tend to do much better on clomid + metformin instead of just clomid on its own. It might be worth it to make sure you are getting lots of fiber in your diet, drink a lot of water, and pretty much find a way to handle the side effects. Especially if you have seen that being on the metformin has helped. Are you ovulating on 100mg?

I was just put on 1000mg didn't build up, didn't O on 100mg, but I didn't take the Metformin last cycle, but I had better results on the 50mg with the Metformin, so am hoping have even better results with the 100mg Clomid and 1000mg Metformin. I had pretty dismal results with the Clomid alone. I've been eating mainly vegetarian meals and am now on CD4 so far so good not feeling to bad at all. Thanku for the advise.

I agree with Lisa - metformin is infamous for causing diarrhea, not constipation. I built up to it . . .started with 500 for 2 weeks, then increased to 1000 - it can take the body time to adjust.

GL this next month.
