Icon5 A little suspicious...

Hello! Thanks for reading my post. I went to my doctor today and asked about being put on Clomid (TTC naturally for almost 2 years). She said she wants to wait until I have waited the full 2 years because I was on depo before and she wants to make sure the depo has worn off.

She doesn't want to give me clomid right away because she said both my husband and I would have to go through a strenuous series of expensive testing. She wants me to wait until July and see if I'm pregnant by then.

I just wanted to know if you had a similiar experience. Was Clomid something offered to you before a bunch of testing? Some of my friends think I need to be more proactive and just tell my doctor what I want.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Summer
{{{HUGS}}} I know that lots of people have problems with coming off of the depo shot but I think 2 years is a long time. I would either push for at least running some blood work to see if you are ovulating. Clomid is very cheap (starting around $30 WITHOUT any ins). I think that I would demand some action or look into seeing another doctor. Best of luck to you!!

I agree with Jessica. We have crappy insurance so I was out quite a bit AT FIRST but then after the deductibles alot was covered. The meds. ran me about 75 a month and the testing about 800-1000 total. Good luck!

hi

i am starting clomid this cycle and had a lot of tests... fsh blood work, hsg dye test, laparoscopy, hysteroscopy and my dh had a sperm analysis...

but.. but... but...

i also had an ectopic pregnancy in feb - which resulted in the lap and hysteroscopy.

i would think that you might have to have some blood work done, maybe your dh will have a SA and "maybe" the hsg dye test to make sure your tubes are blocked????

I would definitely be forward!!!! You do not need a bunch of tests before clomid, maybe a progesterone and other simple blood tests, like thyroid testing, taken in all one blood draw. Your dh will probably need a sperm analysis and this is around $30 at an outpatient center. Depo only takes a year to be out of your system, and if you over 35 you need to ttc naturally for 6 months max. Your doc doesn't seem aggressive enough when it comes to your needs so I would find a new one =) Try to get an RE, some don't require an obgyn referral =)

I agree. Some docs are just more aggressive than others. My doc did the FSH level test, the HSG test, and DH's semen analysis and started me on the clomid and IUI despite any significant problems (slightly elevated FSH). I am 36 though, so maybe age has something to do with it. I say look for a second opinion and start getting the tests done now, even if you don't start the clomid now. Good luck!

Hi! I agree, I think it pays to be more proactive! I didn't have a ton of expensive tests. My insurance picked up everything so far, and clomid 50 cost me $7/month, and the sperm analysis was done in my ob's office. I guess it depends on your insurance. But I would ask her to draw some blood to see if you've ovulated this month (it's not too late according to your ticker) and go from there. Or find a RE or another OB that will help you.

GL! Hope to see you around!

It sounds like your doctor is being responsible. Many times some doc's give clomid without any testing only to find that there are blocked tubes, or DH's sperm analysis isn't 'up to par'.
I'd go with the testing (day3 and 7 weeek past O), HSG (to make sure everything is open and 'filling and spilling' like it should), a SA for DH and go from there.
It would be better to do all of this first and then use the Clomid rather than waste time taking Clomid to find out down the road that there may be a problem.
