Default I'm new... and desperate!

Hi there,

I've been lurking for a few weeks and finally decided to introduce myself. My name is Jenny and I've been married for 2 1/2 years. My husband and I have been trying to conceive ever since. Last fall I was referred to an RE and I just completed my 6th cycle of Clomid, obviously to no avail... yet. Supposedly we do not have a male factor (according to the nurse my husband has "super sperm" and he "could be a donor") and it seemed as though the only issue was anovulation, per ultrasound results. Well, I've ovulated every cycle that I've been clomid. The first 2 months were at 50mg and the last 3 months have been at 100mg with one HCG injection at month 5. This last ultrasound indicated that I had ovulated already so, of course, the injection wasn't necessary. A big looming question that I have is why hasn't my RE performed an HSG test to determine whether or not my fallopian tubes are blocked. Has anyone else had experience with this? For some reason I can't bring myself to just ask the man. I have this totally nutty notion that he must have a good reason for not doing so (like, hopefully he doesn't suspect that's the problem) and I'm a fool to question/doubt this highly educated/experienced professional. But it seems to me that this whole operation clomid is futlie if my tubes are blocked. I mean, what does it matter that I'm ovulating if the poor little egg can't escape the confines of my fallopian tubes and make it's way to my uterus?! Grrrrrr... this is so frustrating! I know I'm preaching to the choir. Anyway, any advice, personal experiences would be much appreciated.

I'm 7dpo and my progesterone level from this morning's bloodwork is 17.6-highest it's ever been. Even higher than when I had the HCG injection last month. Hopefully that means something???

First of all welcome to the board Jenny! Please join us on the chatty thread. I must admit I look there more than anywhere myself. I'm sorry about all your troubles with conceiving. I didn't get an HSG first either, I've had 5 unsuccessful rounds of clomid. After that I talked to my doctor about testing and she thought it was a great idea to get the HSG done before moving on (she wants me to do IUIs with clomid after 2 more cycles). I'm finally getting it done on Monday. I wouldn't hesititate to ask your doctor. I know many doctors do the HSG first if you don't have any children. I hope this is pointless though and the higher progesterone means happy news! I know they say it's not an indicator though. Good luck anyway!

I had an HSG prior to starting treatment prior to conceiving my son. I wondered the same thing, as to why he didn't suggest any tests other than the HSG. Sometimes I truly don't understand their justification. But, hey, it doesn't hurt to ask. If he has a reason, at least you will know. Anyways, I hope get your BFP this month so that this issue won't be an issue any more!

Thanks so much for the warm welcome and well wishes! Seeking out support is long over due for me. My husband and my family are great but I can't help but feel so completely alone. It's comforting to know that I can come here and you all know exactly what I'm going through.

hi jenny

i would definitely ask your doctor about the hsg - you are right - why do the clomid if there is a problem with your tubes? i had my hsg done in march - after my ectopic - the tube was saved... i am so glad i had it done because the tube was swollen - therefore the hsg test came back abnormal....and i just had surgery to have it removed on wednesday - i am so thankful that it is out and we can start ttc soon.

the test itself isn't too bad at all - takes about 15 minutes - i just had a little cramping for a few hours afterwards.... you usually get the results right there because your doctor most likely will do the test... at least that way you know whats going on... if anything!

good luck!!!!!!1

Jenny,
You should definitely ask your doctor about the test! Doctors are just people and they don't always have all the answers. I know we trust them because that's what we're taught, but I had a doctor tell me that YOU are the best doctor of your own body and never be afraid to ask questions or requests test and if you're not satisified with your doctor get another one. We shop for cars, houses, and other important things, what's more important than our health so we should be just as critical. I just had the test and my RE scheduled it on my 2nd month under his care and I didn't even know what it was. That's why these boards are so helpful b/c they educate you on what to ask and what to expect because so many of us are in the same boat. Ask honey, but maybe you're preggo and it will be a mute point, but if not ask, ask, and ask as many questions it takes until your content!
