Default Hi! New to the board!

Hi ladies! I just wanted to post and say hello! I have been lurking for a little while reading all the clomid stories. I just started clomid today for the first time in a few years. It did not help me conceive when I took it previously but I have hopes that it will this time.

Just curious what everyone does as the BD pattern? Every other day? Every two days? Everyday?

I have one son that will be two next week! I also conceived in Dec but lost that baby at 12w3d. We have been actively TTC since the loss with no success, so I begged (literally) my doc for clomid. I just wanted to try to increase our odds.

Anyway, looking forward to sharing tips and info!

Well, I'm on my first cy of clomid, too. We tried to go every other day from about CD 10, then we went everyday from when I got a +OPK.

My doctor suggested the night of the +OPK, the next day (optional) and the following morning, but I think that is how they work timed intercourse with a trigger shot. So we did night, mid-day, morning, beginning the day of my first +OPK.

HTH!

Hi and Welcome!

DH and I are trying an "sperm meets egg" plan that I found on the internet recently. I thought it sounded pretty interesting. Anyway, here is a link to the website. http://www.pregnancyloss.info/sperm_meets_egg_plan.htm

Good luck to you, I hope clomid does the trick!

Hello - this is my first time as well to the board - Man I don't even know what to expect. I am starting Clomid (50mg) in 2 days and I am sort of freaking out with what to expect, along with that my Dr. has me on the Vaginal Prometrium. Has anyone taken that as well - what should I expect as a heads up??? This is our 1st time trying - we have been trying for months and it came down to the fact that I just don't ovulate. It has been tough but I know I can make it through it. Thanks for your help!!!

Well, I was ovulating, but not well, and irregularly, so I just did my first cy of Clomid. I did surprisingly well on the Clomid - almost no s/e. I had some hot flashes during the 5 days I took the pill, but really nothing unusual or out of the ordinary. Some people also get headaches . . . I get migraines everyday normally, and I didn't seem any worse on the Clomid than usual. In fact, most of my cy, I've felt much better than normal - much less cramping and discomfort (probably because I normally get cysts before ovulation, and I don't think I did this time).

The one thing that frustrated/disappointed me a bit was that I thought I would O much earlier . . . . like CD 14 or 15, but definitely by CD 18, and I didn't. My body got all geared up, and felt ready to go a few times, but I didn't O until CD 25. That happened to Sarah (sarahlovesbryan) this cy, too, so I guess I would say don't be disheartened if you don't O when you think . . . and even if you don't O at all at the lower dose. I would recommend using OPKs to figure out when you are going to O.

As for the vaginal prometrium . . . I have a script, but because I O'd so late this cy, dr told me not to take it so he could get a progesterone level this cy to decide if he needs to increase the dose to 100 mg next cy. I've heard it can cause some slight irritation, but it will likely increase your temps. Not sure what other s/e it has. I used the progesterone cream last cy, and all it did was make my bbs a bit sore.

Yes welcome welcome! I am on my 2nd cycle of Clomid (50 mg, days 5-9) and like Tkeys said, I didn't o until day 25, which was really annoying. But what's worse is that I'm now 17 DPO (days past ovulation) and no Aunt Flow and no BFP on a preg test. Anyway, I had very few side effects--a headache and light hot flashes.
Good luck to you!!!!!

I heard that if you BD every other day it gives the sperm time to build up. Also, that sperm can live for a couple of days given that you have adequate cervical fluid.

I've also heard that the timing is important as well as laying on your back with your hips elevated for about twenty minutes after intercourse.

I would highly suggest using an OPK because it helps take out more of the guess work.

I wish you the best of luck.

Thank you guys so much for the heads up - but HOLY cow - the HOTTT flashes - someone put me in a bath tub of ice!!!! They have been real bad, especially when i am sleeping, my poor husband is all i have to say. I think i am freezing him to death and most of all the swimmers at this point LOL, yeah bedroom has been at like 65, work is always pretty cool so it is nice, i just wear a spaghetti strap top and have a fan blowing on me. Moodyness I can see a little, I have actually been sort of emotional, is that normal??? I had to go in for a hormone level test as well c 3 - waiting the results of that.

Now my cycle days have been all messed up since the beginning so when do you guys think it may be good to test - should I do like an every other day one or something??? one month can be 28, 29, 31 - it is never accurate. I just hope this will work, the Dr.said she is giving it 3 cycles - Is it common to not work the 1st time??

As for the prometrium - I am so nervous sticking this little pill up the wayhooo - I'm not to sure what the difference is between that and the one you can just take by mouth???? Havn't done it - it should be an experience!!!!!

You guys are great - thank you for the advice!!!

Supposedly, the pill absorbs better through your skin because it doesn't need to pass through the liver, so it should do a better job of raising your levels at a lower dose. When you swallow a pill, the medicine goes through your liver before it gets into your bloodstream, and the liver cleans a certain percentage of it out.

I can relate to the hot flashes . . . mine weren't terrible, but I slept with the fan on and sat around in skimpy clothes whenever possible.

As for testing with an OPK . . . it depends on if you are worried about limiting yourself to only 7 or not. I'd probably start testing around CD10 or 11 (did you take the Clomid days 3-7, or 5-9? they suggest waiting until 3 days after your last Clomid, so I'd push it back two days if you took the pills 5-9), just in case your body decides to O early. If you don't O by the time you finish the pack, you can get another pack. I'd probably do it that way to be safe (and, in fact, I went through 2 full packs of OPKs waiting to O last cy!)

GL!

I'm also on my first round of clomid. I took it CD 5-9, but my MIL passed away on CD 12, and needless to say, OPKs and BDing were the last things on our minds. We did manage to BD on CD 13 and 16, because we knew how much she wanted grandkids, but I don't know if I have o'd yet.

I had a blood test yesterday (CD21) to test my progesterone levels, and I should get those results today. My BBs are very sore, so I'm guessing that's either a side effect or a PMS symptom. (I'm trying not to get my hopes up for PG). I haven't had any other side effects, except there was a slight stabbing pain on CD 13, but I'm not sure if that was O pain or not.

Msstyle0608, I'm in the same boat as you. I went off BCP in April and we started TTC in May, but I don't ovulate. I have cysts on my Ovaries, but no other symptoms of PCOS, so my Dr. doesn't know if that's what it is or not.

I'm assuming we lost this month, so hopefully AF comes next week and I can start my second round.

tkb623 - has your doctor run all the b/w to look for PCOS? You don't have to have the symptoms to have PCOS. PCOS is a collection of symptoms/problems, and not everyone exhibits every problem - a lot depends on how severe your case of PCOS. I think they also don't fully know what is at the root of PCOS, which is why there is so much variation in how it affects people.
