Hello all!
If anyone is currently on clomid, please chat! I am on my first round and would like to talk to others currently going through the process. I am also taking metformin and have been for quite some time for my PCOS. At first, I thought that I was doing great--no side effects. However, everything seemed to hit me at the same time and I am seriously going crazy. I'm surprised my husband hasn't sought safety elsewhere. I have the worst headache. If I could, I would remove my head right now.

Day 12 of cycle...

Kate

Hi Kate -

I'm on a break cycle right now, I just finished 3 cycles of clomid. I didn't have too many side effects, although a lot of people have some pretty significant side effects with clomid (hot flashes, headaches, etc). It can be quite a challenge!

I responded to you in the other thread, too.

Good luck!

Lisa,
Thanks for the info! I'm starting to wonder about my doctor's lack of involvement. It seems odd now that he said it would take several cycles to regualte when he told me in the office that he would bump up the dose to 100 mg the second month and 150 mg the third month. Did you get u/s when you were taking clomid? Also, he did not warn me at all about the side effects and I have experienced some severe side effects. I can't believe my husband is talking to me today.

Kate

I'm on my 5th cycle of Clomid. The last two with Estrogen/Progestrone. I have noticed in the last two cycles that I am getting moodier. Its definately not easy.

Kate - I'm assuming you're seeing an OB. It seems pretty normal for them to be hands off unless they have a lot of experience dealing with infertility. I didn't get u/s or any other monitoring except a progesterone test and my dr never accounted for the fact that I might O late. That's one of the reasons I'm moving to a specialist. It's not that my doctor isn't a good doctor, I like him a lot and look forward to seeing him for my pregnancy. But his job is to deal with routine gyn stuff, not infertility. It's like going to your family doctor because your shoulder hurts and then expecting him to be able to do surgery and physical therapy. You wouldn't ask that of your family doctor, you'd go see a orthopedic surgeon, KWIM?

I think the most important thing is that you find a doctor that can match the level of involvement you want. If you want more than you are getting now, I would definitely ask your current doctor if he can provide that and if he can't, ask for a referral to someone who can.

And for the side effects, they really are different for everyone and I think like most medications they get better with time. But it sounds like you're having a really rough time! Hope you feel better soon!

I'm also on a break after three cycles of clomid. Side-effects I've experiences: flashes in my vision when my eyes are closed (very annoying at night), floaters in my vision, major breast tenderness/pain, irritability, moodiness, some ovary discomfort, and lighter/shorter periods.

I get all the good ones!!!

Good luck! I was on 150mg last cycle and will probably be on it again next cycle.

Yep, that makes sense. I have a progesterone test on Friday.

The side effects have subsided for now, which is a major relief. TWW is driving me crazy. Although, due to the fact that I might O late, we are still with the program for good measure. It can't hurt.

Also driving me crazy: relatives that give me advice (that have children and no fertility issues).

Missy, 150 mg...I'm afraid to bump up to 100 mg next month for fear of the side effects--especially moodiness. I'll do it...I'm just afraid that my husband will get a restraining order or admit me to the psych ward.

Hi Kate!
Sorry to hear you are havin a bad time, am sure you are glad to be in 2WW. This is my second cycle and I have the sore head, a little discomfort in my ovaries and the baddest moods ever!!! I was grumpy with my friends yesterday so DH managed to escape my evilness for one day!
On my first cycle I did not ovulate so am hoping that these side effects are a good sign as didn't get any then.
Don't get me started on the relatives who give advice, did you ever dream that you would be getting BD advice from them. Was on another site (can't remember which) and a lady had made a list of replies very funny! Things like asking for a diagram of what you should be doing, to check you are doing right. Very amusing but would never dream of saying it. They mean well and is prob their way of being supportive with something that they would find hard to understand. Just have to grin and bear it but we will get there!!

Paula,
Thanks for the laugh! I'll have to track down that list.

Wouldn't you love to read posts from a clomid husbands support group site?

LOL, Kate and Paula. DH reactions to IF stuff are pretty funny, in my experience. I just reminded my husband that if he thought this was bad, he was going to have to put up with a hormonal, nauseous woman for 9 months afterwards! He just said 'oy vay'...

People have all sorts of input whenever they find out you are having issues with ttc. I swear, people are more willing to talk about the details of your sex life than politics, lol. Just offer to have them come over and show you how to do it the right way!

Good luck to both of you! When do you think you will test or when is AF due?

I'm on day 19. Last cycle was 38 days, but OPK tested positive on day 12, so who knows?! I have a progesterone test tomorrow and hopefully I O'd. If not, I have another progesterone test next Friday. Since the first cycle was 38 days, a lot is unknown. If I O'd (according to first progesterone test) and no AF, I'm going to test on day 28. I just know I will because I won't be able to wait.

I told my husband that, if all went well, he had nine more months too! He had about the same reaction.

I hate to say it, but I didn't have any side effects until several days after I stopped taking clomid (after the fifth pill). However, I heard from several people that they did not experience side effects while on clomid (my mother included). I wish you the best!

I didn't really experience many side effects from the clomid either. Maybe a few headaches and hotflashes, but those were normal for me even before the clomid.

Good luck!

And good luck with the testing Kate!

You people are so lucky! Why is it that I am getting hit by ALL the side effects! (probably because I am on 150mgs.... duh but I can still complain)

My husband has bought a straight-jacket for my next cycle. And he is padding the walls and removing any sharp objects. How loving! That's ok I can't hurt him I need his sperms! Oh yea, and I love him.

You could probably still make sperm with no legs right? )

Missy, I feel for you. I even broke out in hives. I have one more week until HPT and I'm still waiting for the results of my progesterone test last Friday. I keep thinking: PLEASE let me be pregnant...I don't want to bump up to 100 mg and not PLEASE let me be pregnant...I want a baby. Of course, I do want a baby, but my first thought is about another cycle on clomid! I know I will lose my mind this time. I'm pretty certain my husband would go on vacation if I didn't need his sperm. Oh yes, it's like let's do it...I'm so in the mood as long as you don't piss me off and I fly off on some tangent about how you placed something on the counter where it did not belong.

How romantic this baby making is!!!! Hang in there, 1 week down, 1 to go! Blowin' Babydust your way. Think anger/grumpiness have gone but feel like my ovaries may explode, very painful and have hot flashes, not nice.
