Default Clomid questions?

Hi ladies,

I finally found a dr. willing to help me concieve (the others i seen wouldn't b/c i am overwieght) I started to take provera (5 days worth to start my AF I have PCOS) and glucaphage i'm up to 2000mg, and of course the clomid 50mg (my first cycle with it) on days 5-9. I am on cycle day 18. for the last few days i have been experiencing pain in my breasts that comes and goes, on and off cramping, nausea, dizziness once in awhile, and extremely tired. My question(s) is this.

1. Are these symptoms normal on clomid?

2. Is it to soon to take a preg test?

3. Have you had any success on these medications concieving? or is it really a loosing battle?

since my af visits are not normally regular, (hance the provera) I can't wait til i miss it, like "normal" women can.
Since this is my first cycle im so anxious, scared etc. I'm sure many of you may have had the same feelings.

Hi ttc4ever. My husband and I have a 4 year old son and was ttc #2 for 2 years. I too am not regular. I have maybe 2 af's a year is all. I went in for all the testing and the doctors said they couldnt find anything wrong that, that is how I am. No PCOS or nothing. So she put me on Provera for 10 days. When af showed I took 50 mg. of Clomid days 5-9, I had no side effects. Around cd15 my breasts hurt, I was having pain in my lower stomach, and I was just tired. Anyway I went in for my progesterone test on cd21 and the doc said it was a 2.65. No way did I ovulate this time around. So the next month we were going to start 100 mg. of Clomid. I was so upset, I just knew I had ovulated and my breasts were changing. So I waited a week after af was due to show and took a hpt, I am now 10 weeks pregnant. No one knows your body better than yourself, I knew from cd15 that I was pregnant. I got discouraged because of the progesterone test, but my husband and I still knew that we were. So you could very well be having symptoms of pregnancy, I just dont know if you were to take a hpt if you would get acurate results. Like I said, I waited a week after af was due. I hope my story gives you hope. Good luck and tons of baby dust to you!

It could be that you are gearing up to O, or that you already did O and you are in the 2ww. Higher levels of progesterone from O can make your breasts sore, so if you normally don't O, that could be a significant change for you. Do you chart, or did you use OPKs to help predict if you are O'ing? I found that helps me a lot. I've O'd anywhere from CD 15 - 25, and if I don't keep track, I'd never have a clue!

Keri11 - it could be that you hadn't O'd yet when the dr took the b/w - my first cy of Clomid, I had my progesterone checked at CD22, and it was 2.something, and I hadn't O'd yet (I actually knew I hadn't), but then I O'd on CD 25. When I had my progesterone checked again on CD 32, it was 14.7. So, sometimes the doctors aren't wrong, they just don't get the whole story! I'm so glad your story ended with a BFP.

Oh - and I'd hold off taking a pregnancy test. Even if you O'd as early as CD 15, you would not likely get a +HPT before CD 25 AT BEST, and more likely a few days after that. So, I'd hold off waiting until probably CD 30 or so, in case you O'd a bit late, but that is just me.

As for whether these meds work - yes, they do! I have only taken one cy of clomid, and we are also dealing with male factor infertility, so it turns out that is our bigger problem. Don't give up hope - if they can get you O'ing, they can get you pregnant!

As for predicting when AF is due, the key is to identify when you O, either by temping or with OPKs - if you do O, either a BFP or AF will be due approximately days later (give or take a few days).

Clomid and metformin should make your cys more regular, too. GL! If they don't, well then you aren't O'ing yet (or you've gotten pregnant!)
