A while back, Georgia started drawing people. I didn't know she could do it, didn't try to teach her, it didn't even occur to me that this was something she might be able to do. She just did it one day sitting at my MIL's kitchen table. I was all kinds of excited for her. Here's the thing, though. She starts out drawing a big head- a big wobbly circle. Then the two eyes are smaller wobbly circles at either the bottom or the side of the head. Then she goes to draw the mouth and it's either a flat, straight line or it looks like a sad mouth either to the other side of the eyes if they're on the side OR on top...then, the long stick body comes out the side or out the top. Kinda like a balloon upside down or laying on its side. The thing is, her drawings of people always look sad and sometimes look downright morbid. I think that tonight she was trying to make the person look like it was smiling, but it kept turning into a frown and it's kind of bothering me. Am I reading too much into it? Is it just that she doesn't quite have the control to figure out how to draw the face happy? Are there deeper psychological implications? Can you tell that I'm a worrier?
