Icon11 ttc and has questions about male fertility

Hi ladies,
I just joined the ttc board and had some questions, and was directed to you. My DH and I have not been to the doctor yet to discuss fertility stuff, we plan on going in January if we haven't conceived yet. I have heard about home sperm analysis kits, but I can't seem to find them. Do you know where they are or if they are truely reliable? My honey was kind of relieved when I told him that there was such a thing.
And one more question without being to graphic. My DH has a moderate sized lump on one of his testicles, he says that it has been there since he was at least 16 (he is 24 now). It really doesn't cause pain unless it is touched. Could this be a varicocele?
Any information you could offer me would be great!

Thanks,
Erin

Hi and

I don't know anything about the lump but he really should go to a urologist and just have them take a look. It might be something really simple and that could be the reason you haven't conceived.

I have heard of home SA kits but I do not beleive they are reliable. However, my lab will let you do the sample at home as long as you get it to the lab within an hour.

So, I would say, send DH to the urologist! Something like that really can't be ignored, especially if it does cause some pain. It might be an infection of some sort and can easily be treated with meds.

Good luck!

Hi Erin,

I agree with Eden, you should definately have your DH go to the doc. My dh didn't want to go either. We did buy a home kit at Target. I think it was around $60 - $70 dollars and there were two tests inside. It did indicate that my dh had a low count , which helped me to convince him to go to the doc.

Good Luck.

Julie
