Stressed!!!! O/t
This is a discussion on Stressed!!!! O/t within the Male-Factor Infertility forums, part of the Trying to Conceive - Infertility category; Ok, so I have to vent about work. I am totally a basket case right now and I don't ...
Ok, so I have to vent about work. I am totally a basket case right now and I don't need all of this stress right now.
I work in an ICU, and I seem to be getting picked on lately. I keep getting the two sickest patients on the floor that are actively trying to die, while other nurses get one stable patient and get to sit on their a** all night! I almost quit when I went to work one night and they gave me a patient with HELLP syndrome (that's the pre-eclampsia, liver failure......can be fatal to mom). Anyway she had a fetal demise at 32 weeks, really really sad, and they had brought the baby up so she could have closer and they left the baby in the room! I mean, come on, how insensitive can people be to try and give me a patient like that? It's no secret that I am doing IVF. I don't know what is going on, but I am probably going to call in sick tonight.
ok, I am done. off to sleep now. thanks for listening (reading)

I'm sorry KEL!!! HOLY COW INSENSITIVE!! I'd say something to them.. I think ?? I try to keep things to myself but that's a very sensitive subject.. so I totally understand.
I'm sorry you have to deal with people like that
I had a rough day at work too.. nothing like yours but had a pregnant female soldier that stated she had an abortion last week
talk about DEPRESSING!! I was LIVID and couldn't deal with her! I had to walk away!! (TEARS IN EYES!!)
Kelly, that is so awful! I mean if they didn't know it would be one thing but they do know, and it is soooo wrong to do that to you!
I would call in sick too. I hope it gets better for you soon.
Renee~ how awful that about the woman talking about her abortion. That is soooo just not right to talk about to a pregnant woman!

Thanks guys. I'm glad it wasn't just me thinking that. At least a couple of my co-workers spoke up on my behalf as well about how that was an inappropriate patient assignment. The charge nurse is a b****! The thing that gets me is that there is a girl there who is pregnant and they were saying how it's inappropriate for her to get those types of patients, so I guess because I am not "actively" pregnant I am fair game. And this wasn't the first one. About a week before this last one I got a lady straight from the OR who had had a c-section, went home and got an infection, came back in for a D&C and ended up with basically a dead uterus and they had to perform a hysterectomy. I had to take her because I was the only open bed that night, but I said something that night about how these types of patients are very upsetting to me and I would prefer not to take care of them....and then they pull that crap! I'm really trying to hold out until I get pregnant and then go out on short-term and FMLA, and then probably not return to work. But I may not make it that long!
Renee- what an idiot. Who says something like that to a pregnant woman???

Kelly- I can't believe that! That is totally not fair and is totally insensitive! I am glad you had some co-workers stick up for you. I don't understand how people can be so ignorant. I hope things get better for you.
Renee- Oh my goodness, I would have lost it too! I can't believe she had the nerve to tell you that! DH and I are actually going to a Planned Parenthood on thursday with our church to have a prayer vigil. (I call it a silent abortion protest as we aren't allowed to say anything to anyone walking in or out of the clinic.)
Carrie- Good luck with your IVF consultation. I hope they can come up with a plan for you and your DH.
Ladies, I think the stupidity is just going around right now....don't you think that has to be it? BTW cousin had a baby boy on friday. Had to drag myself there and put on a nicey nicey smile and hold him. She complained about the stress of everything and I offered to take him home with me. Then we laughed. I really hope she does right by him, he is absolutly perfect.
Well, I applied for a new job. I'm nervous though that my manager might sabatoge things for me because it's with the hospital, just a different department. I'll let you guys know if I get out of my personal h*!!.

I am so sorry that you are going through that crap. And that is what they are pulling....CRAP. I am a nurse in a ICU too (though not an OB nurse) and I have seen nurses on our unit be passive agressive like that towards our pregnant nurses. I can't figure out what is wrong with people. I don't blame you for putting in for a transfer. If you explain to your manager that you like working there ( if you do) but the stress is too much for you at this time and need to seek another option, I wouldn't anticipate a problem. Plus it shows professionalism and honesty on your part so your not burning a bridge that you may need some day, whether it is for a reference or wanting to go back some day.
Leslie- Thanks for the encouraging words. The thing is, I don't work in OB either. I'm a cardiac ICU nurse. We rarely get OB patients in our area, so it is pretty easy for me to avoid them if the charge nurses choose to be nice to me. Thanks for the advice. I rarely ever see my manager, so I will shoot her an e-mail just to give her a heads up.
Take care.

I don't know when I will find out about the job. It's in employee health....cake walk compared to my job now! It's M-F, days. I'm really not a day person, but I guess I will deal with it to get rid of the stress!

trust me you would learn to like the dayshifts. I was a nightshift Rest/bar manager for years and would get home at 3 or 4 in the morning, so to bed around six.....but now I work a 7:30-5pm job.......love it! (welll I will never love waking up! and I do sometimes miss the middle of the night, I DO like nights) but I like working when other people are and seeing a TV show every now and again!

You'll like m-f daylight, Kelly. It's a little bit of a drag towards the end of the week getting up especially if you are used to fewer days a week. I did 3 12's so it was a bit of adjustment for me. Goodluck!!!! Take care.
Yep.. I did my share of charge nurse work 4 on and 2 off... Two days two swing.. Very hard to get your body used to anytime of schedule. Then I switched to all swings.. I loved sleeping in but it felt like all I did was work and sleep!
Now that I have M-F Day shift I love it!!
630-3p
Wouldn't have it any other way!!
Hope you get it girl!
I had a quick chat with my boss today. I sent her an e-mail the other day explaining everything since I don't see her very often. She told me that she completely understands and even offered to check another department (Cardiac Rehab) because she said that she thought they were looking for someone. I was completely shocked.....I mean what kind of boss tries to help you find a new job????? I'm hoping that something works out.
