Severe male factor it......
I was wondering if there was and ladies who had successful IVF with male factor. My dh has low count, motility, and morphology. Our re told us we would have to have ivf/icsi. I have no known problems, so I was wondering if anyone else has a situation like this who are now pregnant.
Thanks...

Re: Severe male factor it......
Hey There!! My DH also has the same issue as your husband..
Low count,poor morphology,and poor motility..
I also have a blocked tube which is also a cause (RE said he could fix that but there was no reason to since my DH had an issue as well)
We TTC for almost 6 years.. Finally we went to see our RE and he told us our chances were best with IVF w/ ICSI (practically our only hope) We just finished our first IVF w/ICSI cycle in June and it worked!!
I am now pregnant with one little baby!!!
And we feel on top of the world!!
I hope this helps a bit.. Good Luck !!

Re: Severe male factor it......
Thanks for the reply and CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!! I can only imagine how happy you must be after 6 years . I actually have a 4 yr old ds and we have been ttc for about 2 years. But I knew since we already had conceived one time (after only trying 2 months) there had to be a problem. And there was.....But your success story definately gives lots of hope!!

Re: Severe male factor it......
tryn4#2 -
My story is very similar to yours. We have a 3 year-old son. We tried for a couple of months with no luck, I bought an ovulation kit & boom got PG. I didn't have any complications with my first pregnancy...wow did I ever take that for granted. To get PG again has been very difficult. We got PG right away again but m/c & since then - nothing....so I just had a hunch something was wrong. My husband's SA showed low count (2), morphology (30%), and several abnormal sperm. He goes for his first appt. tomorrow. I just feel so anxious for answers & for the next step because I REALLY want another child.
Not having another one makes me sad for us but also for my son - I just couldn't imagine being an only child & I don't want that for him. GOOD LUCK & keep me posted on your process. I'll say a prayer for you.

Re: Severe male factor it......
Let me know how his appointment goes tomorrow if you dont mind. By 2 did you mean 2 million? My dh has had 2 sa one was 4mil and the other was 14 mil. His urologist told him has a varicocele. He suggested surgery. I am scheduled to start my first ivf in September. I am not sure if i am going to go ahead with it or have dh have the surgery. Dh is anxious about the surgery because it is not guarenteen to even help. Plus he would have to be out of work for so long and he just started a new job. So I am looking for success stories on the varicocele surgery. I havent been able to find any so far. So thats where we are. I am just like you I do not want my son to be an only child either. That worries me more the most.
I will keep you posted and you do the same.....Good luck tomorrow!!

Re: Severe male factor it......
Well, my husband's appt. this afternoon left us with little answers. The urologist suggested that it may have varicocele....So, he went to do an ultrasound. The radiologist said that everything looks good. Unfortunately, we were disappointed by this response as we are looking for a reason & hopefully a fix. Now we don't know what to think or do. My husband will call his urologist tomorrow to see what's next.
I have searched on the internet about varicocele but there seems to be lots of conflicting information. My husband said that his urologist made it sound like that if it was varicocele then a surgery should change things around. That's what got our hopes up for a short time.
He also said that he will have to take another SA in October - that seems like forever away! I'm not being very patient with the process. I'll let you know what we find out.
If I was in your shoes I'd strongly consider the costs...especially if you want more than one more child. I'm nervous that we are looking at IVF/ICSI as our next option. If we get into that then we will need to seriously discuss a budget. It feels like such a gamble & I hate that feeling.
Take care!

Re: Severe male factor it......
Hey Tweetness..
I'm sorry you and your DH are going through this!! I just wanted to let ya know that I understand and there are some of us out here that know what you are going through. I felt so alone when we found out about my DH's varicocele.. The doc told us that he could have surgery and most likely everything would be fixed.. Well, it takes like 3 months for the sperm to regenerate completely .(not sure exactly how long but its something like that) My DH got deployed so he never got to do that SA again until he came home (which was 1 year later). Well.. this year our reproductive endocrinologist said that most likely our best bet was IVF.. I know it sounds horrible, but I wish we would have known that sooner. We could have skipped all the waiting wondering what was going to happen and could have went straight to IVF. It is very expensive but very well worth it.. We have sacrificed a lot for this IVF. We had to pay for all of it out of pocket including meds.. about 13,500 if you add the meds also. It is a huge decision to make.. but the best one we made.. I'm NOT telling you to go in this direction, I just wanted you to know you aren't alone!!
and I hope you find the answers you are looking for so you can get your wish and dream!!!
Good Luck to you !!

Oatie32.......
Did your husband have surgery to correct his varicocele?? My re thinks we should go ahead with ivf/icsi bur the urologist and my gyno thinks dh should have the surgery. We are undecided. We dont want to pay for the surgery and then have to end up still doing ivf....What helped you make desicion?
Thanks........

Re: Severe male factor it......
Oatie32,
Thank you for your comments & Congratulations to you. I shower you with my prayers & blessings. My DH & I have talked a lot tonight. I think it will come down to IVF but we'll see. If it does - I know that we will try it at least for one cycle - maybe 2 or 3 - but not more than that.
Tryn4#2,
I can understand how this would be such a difficult decision with conflicting messages. I think the Internet supports both ideas too....if only we could predict the future - right?
Keep me posted!

Re: Severe male factor it......
Tryn4#2... Yes my husband had the surgery in August 2004.. He deployed to Iraq Oct 2004 so we didn't have another SA until he got home from Iraq (Oct 2005) only to find that he still had issues with his swimmers.. The reason we chose to do the repair was because the army paid for it all and they didn't pay for IVF.. and the doc was very optimistic and thought it would work. We actually didn't even consider IVF at that time. It didn't even cross our mind!!
When the doc did the surgery he said he fixed a lot of them but there were some he still couldn't get..
When we spoke with our RE he said he wasn't sure of anything to help my DH..(other than meds.. but we did that.. so thats why we went straight to IVF!
Tweetnes..
Good Luck with your journey... I hope you keep us updated and post your success!!

Re: Severe male factor it......
Thanks.....
We have decided to hold off on ivf. Dh is going to have the surgery in November. Our insurance will cover the surgery but not ivf. SO I figured we may as well try everything first. Who knows, it might work. Thats gonna be my prayer anyway. We did conceive once, and I have no problems so I hope it gives us a good chance. Plus my gyno said if he had the surgery she could work with us and save some money....but well worry about that later. At least if he has the surgery we will know we tried evrything before moving on. IVF is definately not cheap as you know..lol. But if its what has to be done..........its well worth it!!
Thanks..

Re: Severe male factor it......
You are right and I think its a great decision.. WE did the same as you know.. Unfortunately it didn't work for us ..
We were just meant to have IVF done. When God has a plan, he has a plan and will follow through with it and not let you down. He sent a doc to me at my workplace that put the referral in for me while I was helping her. Then I met this awesome Reproductive endocrinologist.. It all fell into place!!
Now our miracle is in the works!!
Hope everything works out for you.. Good Luck!

Re: Severe male factor it......
tryn4#2 -
I admire your courage to make a decision. Just look forward now & try hard not to second guess your choice. You offer me a lot of inspiration.
My DH's UR Dr. talked to him & said that he has a slight varicocele. He'd like for him to redo the SA in October. If they are still bad he would recommend surgery. He says that there is a 50/50 chance that it would help his count. We don't know yet if it is covered by insurance. I'm assuming not but we dont' know yet. I just really think that the counts will still be low so I'm not very optimistic. We have been trying for a year with no luck. So, there's something going on - my tests check out normal.
My impatience is getting the best of me. I think October test, November at the EARLIEST for surgery, then it's stil 3 months before they know if it made a difference - right??? That's Febraruay when we can seriuosly start trying again. . . .That means no baby until November 2008!!!!!! Seems like forever - and that's the earliest!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am tempted to call my doctor again & see what he thinks & recommends.
