Default question about iui

I was wondering if any of you ladies had any iui performed by an ob/gyn? My ob/gyn said that if after dh had his var. repair if the numbers improved she could do a couple iui's. She also already prescribed me clomid, but I havent taken it yet as it would be pointless with dh count. I was just wondering if any had gotten bfp from their gyno doing an iui? She said it wouldnt be washed, she would just insert his whole sample in there. Didnt seem very promising to me.

Thanks

We never did IUI .. we went straight to IVF.. We also have military medical so it may be different.. I know only certain hospitals specialize in fertility treatments and the ones I've been to weren't one of them..

I hope it works for you!!

Whoa!!! I would definately get a referral to a RE... IUI should not be done without having the sample washed. This could lead to severe infections, etc. She could do an ICI or IVI without washing the sample, but historically those methods haven't been any more affective than traditional BD'ing. I would definately see someone else. This might be the best time to get a relationship established with an RE since you're kind of in waiting for DH's count to improve post-surgery.

RED FLAG!!!!! I did iui 4 times. got pg 3 times and carried one to term. You have to have the sample washed before it is inserted into the uterus. If they are just inter-vaginal insemination that's a differant story. Here is why: when the sperm cross the cervix into the uterus they swim out of the semen and into the cervical mucus. Semen inside the uterus can be lethal! Washed sperm have no seminal fluid and then are safe to be directly placed inside the uterus. I would ask about this first. Trying to get pg is NOT worth lossing your life (or uterus) over.

Thanks Ladies.....Ok what ya were talking about must be what it was then(ici or ivi) . Because my ob said it would be put in with a syrnge(sp) or something, I cant remember...but Im pretty sure not washed. SO that would make semnse then. But that would do any better that bd would it? If Im spending out $ W ould rather do an iui with an re and have a better chance. Because it seems to me that ivi would be just like bd. Why wouls ici be beneficial.
Thanks

I would go directly to IUI, and see an RE. I think that OBs messing around with fertility stuff often cause more harm than good.
