Default New to this board - have some questions...

I'm usually active on the Born in March 2005 board, but recently visited an infertility specialist to consider IVF in the near future...

Brief history: 4 early m/c's in 2 years (10 wks, 10 wks, 5 wks & 5 wks) prior to conceiving my daughter naturally! All the tests we had done (mostly on me, other than a sperm analysis & SDI analysis for DH) never pinpointed a reason for the recurrent m/c's...

Not that I understand all the numbers, but my DH had some tests run Monday, and the office called me back with his results. Sperm concentration was good, motility good, but morphology (Kruger) was lower than the benchmark 7% vs. the desired 10-15%. His SDI was 20.7. My Day 3 numbers were excellent, especially since I just turned 43 in May: FSH = 6.7, Thyroid = 0.76, Estradiol = 22, LH = 4.9.

Does anyone know if poor sperm morphology could be one of the factors in my past m/c issues? Would poor morphology also be considered "male factor infertility" ???

Also, our dr suggested that my DH take Fertile One supplements (he was taking them when I got pg with my DD)...

We are planning to go through with IVF in Sep... any suggestions? Words of advice? Questions I should be posing?

Thanks in advance...

Lynn,
I'm fairly new to all of this myself. It's my first IVF cycle. I can tell you though that poor morphology is considered male factor infertility. But if your DH took the supplements before and they worked for you guys then go for it!!!
Good luck.

I agree with Kelly.. It is considered Male Factor Infertility.. My RE always told us that if there is a problem with the sperm, (i.e. Morphology) that they aren't shaped normally and don't have all unique characteristics that are needed for a healthy sperm..(Normal shaped head, tail, body) Therefore, they aren't strong enough to fertilize an egg and will never penetrate the outer layer of the egg.. Probably won't even GET to the egg! I'm sure your DD was conceived by a healthy sperm that was shaped perfectly!
I really don't have an answer for the past m/c issues.. That's something I would discuss with the RE. I'm sure he/she could give you some more info..
Good luck!!

Welcome to the board! I have also heard that poor morphology is considered Male Factor Infertility. Unfortunately, I don't know if it would cause miscarriages though. I would definitely recommend your DH take the supplements, especially since you were able to get pg with them before. I don't know anything about IVF, but good luck to you and I hope you are blessed with a healthy pregnancy and baby soon!
