Default My introduction

Greetings all. I'm Tricia. Dh and I have been TTC #2 for 2 1/2 years (with breaks in between). We had no problems conceiving our dd. We're dealing with pretty severe low count. Volume and motility are good though. Count was 2-3 mil last August and 1-2 mil in May. Dh has been on fertility blend, orchic, and a multivitamin.

Last month he finally went to a urologist. He had also been having some pain after ejaculation (sorry tmi) and some issues with urinating. He was put on an anti biotic for a month and also told to take Saw Palmetto. The antibiotic course is done, but he really hasn't seen a change yet. We'll probably give it another month and then follow up with the urologist. We have no fertility coverage, and the doctor was hesitatnt to order too much in terms of testing for prostatitis because dh is only 32. But with the ongoing pain and other problems, I think we can move forward there.

I just wanted to introduce myself and join all of you who are dealing with this problem.

I hope they can find a solution soon! This board is a little slow but the people who are here are friendly and helpful, it may just take a few days to respond!

We wish you the best!

Hoping for your husband's recovery soon. Just remember it takes approximately 70 to a full 90 days for the sperm to "regenerate" or increase in numbers after his treatment. Unfortunately, for us impatient people like myself it takes longer sometimes to see the improved results. Hang in there!

I love your daughter's red hair too! My niece had that color at birth and it turned a bit brunette.

Hi Tricia, it looks like you and I are in the same boat. Don't you just wonder were all those went?? I really hope that they figure out what is going on with your DH, it can be so frustrating. I am always worried that it might be some underlying health problem with my DH, and they are missing it. Other than the terrible declining SA, he is the healthiest person I know!

DH and I have a 4 year old DS, Aidan, conceived the good old fashioned way on the first try and now are on cycle 31 TTC #2. We were so convinced that it would just happen, that I didn't get checked out for a year TTC, and then finally my OB mentioned testing DH about 4 months after that. His count was very similar to your DH's, about 3 million. We were given a less than 1% chance to get pregnant on our own, same as if I was on the pill! Well, we were referred to the urologist who diagnosed DH with varicoceles. He had a bilateral surgery, and now over a year later, his counts are lower (between .8-2 mill). Watch out for those urologists! After the surgery didn't produce results, urologist started experimenting on DH, anti-biotics for 4 months and Proxeed (sp?) supplements, protein powder, vitamins. Then after a year "let's just wait and see", he punted us to an reproductive endocrinologist and we started IVF/ICSI. All doctors seem to have different opinions, but my RE said that with DH's numbers it was a waste of time to do the surgery. We were put in the fast track for IVF immediately and fortunately approved by insurance ASAP.

I would suggest having a consultation with an RE or a urologist that specializes in reproduction, if DH's does not. That way you can see up front what you are dealing with and if you need to move on to the next step. I think for us, if this current IVF doesn't work ( it does!!!) we are just going to be happy with the wonderful one we have and let go of TTC and enjoy the life we have now. But, we sure tried!
Here is babydust for you! Good luck! I hope things work out for you!

I should clarify that. I meant to ask for an update on how the IVF cycle was going. Didn't except you to have answers just yet if you began on 8/18.

Hi Tricia, sorry I didn't check back here sooner.

Any word on DH's diagnosis?

I am hanging in there, just trying to grow some follies now. It is frustrating, though. Since we conceived DS with such ease, I always thought that once we got DH's issues squared away (or handles by ICSI/IVF) things would be a breeze. But, now I have ovarian cysts and am so worried that they will get too big and cancel my IVF cycle. You know, I think I just got used to him being the patient, with IVF it is all me! My seeming good health was the only thing we had going for us....It is a little nerve-wracking, but, for today, we are still in the game.

Good luck to you!!
Sarah
