Icon9 Male Testing-all 3 factors were low

My husband got tested last week and Friday we found out that all three factors were low.
Count was 2 million vs 20 million
The other two factors were also low.
He's going to a urologist tomorrow to rule out varicole (I hope) anyway...what more can we do other then the obvious, change our diets, take vitamins and have him switch to boxers.
I'm really upset about this! I have endometriosis myself (or not), I've monitored it for years....so that doesn't help the matter. My insurance does not cover IVF

Any advice?

I am sorry you are going through this.

My DH and I are in the same boat. He was tested and EVERYTHING was low...not a good situation.

He had some varicosceles (sp) and had the surgery about 6 months ago. We had him tested and the numbers didn't increase, but the Urologist just suggested giving it more time and suggested we start the vitamins.

So we started DH on Fertility BLend 1 week ago, so we have another 3 month wait ahead of us before we find out if they helped.

My advice is to start the vitamins right away, they aren't going to hurt anything! This way you get a jump start on the waiting game! Get him in the boxers and make sure he drink lots of water...water is SOOOO good for the body!

Best wishes to you guys! This board is kind of slow, but whenever there is a post we are all quick to reply!

Mindy

Hi girls, just wanted to pipe in to let you know you are both not alone. My DH was dx'ed with a double varicocele and had a varicocelectomy on 12/1. His total count was 77mm, but motility was only 3%. We're hoping the surgery will get his motility up to 15% so we can at least attempt IUI with decent odds.

My DH is currently on several antioxidants, but his urologist didn't seem to think they would help too much. REgardless we are on Vitamin B and C, Selenuim and a men's multi-vitamin. I'd like to get him on L-Caratine (sp) too. We have our next s/a in April.

Denise, I suggest the same as Mindy. Overall health is best. Cutting down on caffeine and alcohol is good too. There are some good sites online to for reading.

Mindy, what were your DH's count. It's hard for me to read the VAC surgery didn't work for you.

Let us know how you and DH are doing! We're here for you!!

I am not sure what DH's counts were off the top of my head but they were low (I will try to find the info and post it). Motility & Morphology wer low too.
Going into the surgery we knew we only had a 50/50 chance of it working for us. DH only had a couple vari's from his scan then in surgery they found much more. So although there were more than we expected we were actually happier. The Urologist says it could take up to a year before we see an improvement if we see any at all.

Our urologist is really optomistic though! He feels that with taking the vitamins and possibly Clomid we will be a great candidate for IUI! We just need to give DH's body time to heal and to get everything working from after surgery. The Dr. said it would take about 3-4 months for everything to heal inside and then it would take about 3-4 months for the new sperm to generate.

I was devastated when the Dr. said his numbers really didn't increase, but was hopefull after we discussed the Fertily Blend for men. There is also another vitamin we are going to try if this doesn't work. It's more expensive though Therologix www.therologix.com. This was recommended first by our Urologist...but we are trying Fertility Blend first to see if we can save a little money!

Best wishes to you all. I hope this New Year brings us all a BFP!

Mindy

Hello ladies
DH went to the Dr. on Thur, Dr. was pretty assuring about the whole situation. First we're doing blood work to make sure nothing else is going on (I assume horomone levels) then we'll do the ultrasounds and xrays. I just have to learn how to have some patience! DH is taking his vitamins as well. He cut all caffeine out and I'm hoping he won't have a drop to drink (we're not big drinkers) until we go on vacation or until we know what's causing the #'s to be low. Like I said, I want a baby NOW ha!
Keep me posted ladies, I'll let you know what turns out. I'm hoping he doesn't need sugery, but it sounds like it's easily corrected if he does. Did it hurt?

Did it hurt...well I can't say for sure...but DH was in a little pain over the weekend. All was back to normal in the bedroom about 2-3 weeks later. I wanted to make sure it was heeled completely before we did anything.

I looked the procedure up online and I can't imagine how it couldn't hurt...I found some pretty graphic sites!

Best wishes to you all for 2006 BFP's!

My DH has had two very bad counts as well. We do know that he has a Varicocele, but the Urologist that he went to was very pessimistic. He basically said to him (the day before Thanksgiving), "You have two choices: adoption or IUI with a donor." We're looking at going to see a different Urologist. I just got started on Aetna insurance and I am working with an claims specialist to use the "Infertility Diagnosis and Treatment" section of the insurance!!
