Default Male Clomid use question

Hello,

I am new here and discovered this forum while I was searching for information on male Clomid use.

I am a 42 yr old male and I am a parapalygic. My wife and I have started going to fertility doctors because we have to use the IVF method for pregnancy since I do not ejaculate because of my condition. We have chose IVF because it seems that has the best chances for us.

I have recently recieved the results of a blood test and one of the tests performed was a testosterone level test. My results of this test showed that I have a low testosterone level in my blood and the doctor gave me a prescription for Clomid. He wants me to take it for 3 months to get my testosterone level up and he will monitor me every month until then. Can anybody here tell me about the possible side effects or advantages/disadvantages of taking clomid? I find lots of things about this for women and not very much for men. Of course my doctor explained some of this to me but it sort of hit me all of a sudden (I mean - Low testosterone? I have to shave everyday, somewhat of a deep voice, etc... well, anyway). All of this is very new for me and I certainly appreciate any help or information you can give me. Thanks very much!

my hubby is taking clomid and hcg injections now and has been for about 2 1/2 months....my dh has low count but his testosterone level came back fine...they have put him on this to see if increasing his levels of follicle stimulating hormone will help to increase his count......he hasn't had many side effects to either med.....just an increase in libido.... ......I am not sure if it has any affects on his count yet but should know in the next week so i will let you know....good luck to you and your wife!!

Thanks Patty!

I really appreciate your response too. If I do have an increase in libido I'm sure my wife will appreciate that also.

Today I will go get my prescription and start taking it. 3 months seems like a long time but I guess patience is a virtue. Please keep me informed about your husband's count. They assume mine is low too but cannot tell until they actually extract the sperm from me and they don't want to do that until my testosterone level increases. Sort of a catch 22 I guess.

Anyway, I hope everything turns out wonderful for the both of you.

Thanks again!

my hubby is currently taking 25mg every day..although I have to remind him most of the time..... have you had a s/a done??? The reasoning behund the clomid for men is that its suppose to help increase FSH ----in women this is what makes the follicles grow and mature...in men its suppose to improve the sperm....we have started our IUI and should know the results within a week.....(we have done 2 ivf's already before they decided to try to treat hubby)

Hello,

My DH took clomid for about a year or so to increase his numbers and it worked for him. He took 25 mgs a day. He had low FSH and it helped his count go from 600,000 to anywhere from 1-20 million.

Good luck! It takes about 75 days or so to produce sperm, that is why they have you take it for 3 months to see if it is working.
