Have MF due to blocked vas from previous hernia surgery, well after bad apt with RE, we have done lots of research and found out that we are excellent candidates for a PVSA (surgical sperm aspiration) with IUI.
Has anyone dealt with this type of treatment? Any success, well any anything. Any and all responses are appreciated. TIA
Wishing everyone a big fat positive in their near future.
Re: Hello everyone, excuse the interuption - have ?
I thought that if they aspirated sperm, they weren't appropriate for IUI, only IVF . . . I thought they were mature enough to have all the genetic info for ICSI, but can't really swim and penetrate an egg on their own. But, don't quote me on that! It could be the point at which they can intercept the sperm . . . perhaps if they can get it at the blockage point, the sperm are sufficiently mature? I'm sorry I'm not more help - but that sounds like it would be great if it works. Remember, the chances with IUI, in general, are much lower than IVF, so you might have to do multiple IUIs.

Hey Keys --- Yes, you are correct - MESE, PESE and TESE are only good enough for IVF with ICSI due to their immaturity. However, PVSA or an aspiration taken out prior to the blockage point does produce live motile sperm in vast numbers. The catch is so many other factors, duration of blockage, where blockage occurs, etc. and the worst part finding a urologist that will perform the aspiration. It is like finding a needle in a haystack. So far we have no luck and for us -- due to blockage being 20 years old and reversal attempt 11 years - thyroid disease, high blood pressure, smoking, with DH -- our chances doing it this way are fading quickly before we even start.
We are considering DIUI at Home -- I know freaky. We're still doing research, and I'm staying positive that sometime in 2008 I'm going to see two lines. Best of Luck to you on your IVF! I'm sending you positive thoughts.
