Default Donor Sperm-Do you need ICSI?

(Child Mention)

Hello Ladies
I am bit of a newbie at forums and message boards, so forgive me if I dont get the abbrv right.
Both my DH and I are 41 yrs old. WE are shooting for a 2nd child. We have a 2 year son which was a result of our 1st try at IVF, the love of my life.
We tried IVF /w donor sperm and my own eggs last May and that failed and since then, have switched clinics. I have given up on using my own eggs and I know this is a rare thing, but we are using a friends eggs (who is 30) w/ DS. We are paying out of pocket and cant afford a number of failed cycles. We will be in a Oct cycle. My RE is pushing us hard to have ICSI done which will cost us $2000. They are telling me that they do ICSI on all frozen DS cases. :
For those that have had to use DS -did you have ICSI done? ??

HI there! First off I wantto welcome you and wish you the best of luck at conceiving your #2!

I am not a Dr, but in my opinion, donor sperm is frequently used for IUI. So if it can swim in the cathater, find an egg inside a womans body and fertilze it, I don't see why it couldn't find an egg in a dish and fertilize it. Make sense? I think that ICSI might up your chances a bit, but that would be up to you!

Hello, I have ALOT of DS experience! Our DD was iui w/DS. The thing with DS is it has a lower motility after it has been frozen and thawed. If you were using your own eggs then you would just do standard iui but since you are using DE and DS your chances are much greater going the route mentioned. I myself have had 3 failed iui's w/ds this time and was told to move on to other options, we are considering embryo adoption. We just have to find someone who wants to donate their embabies. The cost of this is much cheaper around $3000.

My doctor highly suggested that we do ICSI with our donor sperm also so we did.

I just completed my first IVF cycle in June and part of the reason we had to do IVF was becaues of male factor and poor sperm quality. My doctor suggested that we do ICSI so we did (but that was because of the poor quality sperm)..
In my opinion, if there isn't anything wrong with the sperm, and you have a great number of them to work with then you won't need ICSI. They will be able to fertilized the egg normally if they are healthy sperm.
But.. with that said, again my RE recoomends it for everyone.. That way its guranteed that they fertilize all the healthy and mature eggs!!

I would do it.. but that's just my opinion!
Good Luck!!
