How much did the varicocele repair cost? Is this something that is typically covered by insurance?

What was the recovery period?

the recovery period depends on the type of surgery u choose to do!...ive heard that the one that ties off the veins has a quick recovery period!

Insurance will cover it if it causes dh pain. Recovery is like 3-4 days. After insurance we ended up paying the urologist about $400.00 and the hospital $1000.00. Pretty good considering we were going to do ivf. And we have no insurance coverage for that.

I'm sure it depends on your insurance..

My husbands insurance paid for it and he had no PAIN .. he had no clue he had it until he was tested for inferitlity.. but his insurance pays for a lot since he's Active duty military.

Our insurance paid for DH's varicocele repair too, and he didn't have pain from the varicocele. Before insurance it would have cost us $18,500, but insurance paid all but $2,000.

DH didn't really have pain with the surgery either (he had the embolization where they shoot little foam coils into the vein making it collapse). He had some discomfort for a few days, but nothing that advil didn't take care of. From everything I've been told it takes 3 mths to see improvement to sperm count/ motility though. DH still has discomfort occasionally, but it usually goes away pretty quickly.

Our insurance paid for all of it except for maybe $200. I think it was $3,000 to $4,000. Our insurance paid for all infertility testing, but stops once a transfer procedure (IUI, IVF,etc) takes place.
