Default Where does freedom of speech cross the line?

Where does a person's freedom of speech cross the line? How come I can stand on a street corner and scream vulgar hateful things. But if I was in the same situation and got into your face i'd go to jail. My hubby can't even explain to me so I figured I'd ask you guys. What is your thoughts on protestors at funerals?Relgious people standing on random corners screaming horrible vulgar stuff?

I believe in it. I believe some groups are tried to be quieted down more than others which I dont think it is right. Just because something isn't popular it shouldn't mean they shouldn't have equal rights to freedom of speech. If it isn't right for one group then it shouldn't be right for another. I believe its fine as long as everyone has equal playing fields.

It's their right. I have a choice on whether or not I have to listen to it.

I think like all freedoms, freedom of speech crosses the line when it impinges upon someone else's civil rights. Contrary to what some might have you believe, you don't have the right to never hear anything offensive or distasteful. You do have the right to not be verbally threatened, or detained against your will while someone is talking to you. So if any of that is happening in the one-on-one conversations, that explains why it's not OK, while spewing hate on the street corner is.

Explain this to me. Your riding in your car and there are guys on the street corner with a bull horn shouting the most vulgar things. You have all windows up and radio on. You can still hear them. Then what do you do? How can you not listen to it?
