Students Kicked Off Homecoming Court After Lamb Slaughter
Students Kicked Off Homecoming Court After Lamb Slaughter
In the wake of a lamb slaughter, some students involved have been dismissed from Homecoming Court.
In mid-September, between 8 and 12 teens - including several High School football players - killed two lambs.
At that time, no charges were filed against the teens. Instead, the teens paid the farmer back by working for him.
When the school district asked if it would take action, the superintendent said the school district only has the authority to impose discipline on students when the alleged misconduct occurs on school property or under school supervision.
The school is now taking action by removing two of the students from the Homecoming Court.
The school has received much public pressure from parents and the animal rights group PETA. The public will be able to comment on the issue at a school board meeting Monday at 7 p.m.

This is a story locally where I live. Do you think the school should have gotten involved? Is just working for the farmer enough for something like this?

Re: Students Kicked Off Homecoming Court After Lamb Slaughter
An earlier article to give a bit of background:
A mother said teens beat farm animals to death during a hunting trip.
The mother of one of the accused says the teens admitted to killing two lambs. The parent of one of the teens addressed rumors in the community, saying the incident was not a satanic ritual and was not school related.
School Officials said, "The school district only has the authority to impose discipline on students when the alleged misconduct occurs on school property or under district supervision."
According to the parent and school, several teens went coyote hunting over the weekend, but were unsuccessful. On their way home, they were surprised by two sheep that came charging at the group.
The startled teens beat the farm animals with a firearm and field-dressed them.
The parent, who doesn't want to be identified, said, "They did and cut them up, but just as they would have if they were hunting, they felt it was a sin to waste the meat and they didn't know what to do."
Channel 6 News found out the teens involved apologized to the farmer and made restitution. They are to work on the farm to pay off the rest of the debt to the farmer.

Re: Students Kicked Off Homecoming Court After Lamb Slaughter
The part I have a problem with is that they beat the lambs to death. If they had shot them, then dressed them I think paying back the farmer would be enough. Why were they out hunting coyotes in the first place? Do they just like to kill for the sake of killing? Also, sheep are hardley visious animals. They certainly could've run from them instead of killing them in the first place.

Re: Students Kicked Off Homecoming Court After Lamb Slaughter
Yah, I have a big problem with these teens. What the heck?? They tortured 2 aminals to death. Just plain wrong. Teens involved in this type of deviant behavior become adults involved in even worse deviant behavior. I think the school can definitely step in. Not only would I kick them off the homcoming court, I'd kick them off the football team and any other extra-cirricular activities. If they were my kids, they'd be in a load of trouble and they would definitely be getting counselling.

Re: Students Kicked Off Homecoming Court After Lamb Slaughter
I don't think the school should have any say. They didn't do this act on school time or on school property. I think the farmer should have the right to press charges or allow the children to repay their debt. I think the parents should have repremanded them and I think they should have to do some sort of community service. I think what they did was horrible and they should be punished for it but I don't think the school should have anything to say about that punishment. If my child does something wrong and it isn't on school time or school property I would be very angry to find out they were disciplined there after they were disciplined by me.

Oh okay but it is okay to beat an animal to death! This had nothing to do with hunting and everything to do with being cruel.

I don't think the school should be involved. If it doesn't happen on school time or property then it doesn't invovled the school. These children have parent's. It is their job to punish the children not the school.

I just have a hard time picturing lambs on the attack. And students being so 'startled' that they went on instinct and just beat them to death.
What is homecoming court?
