Spanish Star Spangled Banner????
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,193533,00.html
I think this is absolutely DISGUSTING. The Star Spangled Banner is an AMERICAN anthem, not a Mexican one. If they want to live in America LEGALLY, they should sing this song in ENGLISH. Not only that, but sing it AS IT IS and not change the words. It makes me sick.

Re: Spanish Star Spangled Banner????
I don't get it.
It is not changing thew words. It is not becomign pro immigration. America has no official language. It seems like a petty complaint.

Re: Spanish Star Spangled Banner????
I see nothing wrong with it.
this did make me chuckle though:
"The Star-Spangled Banner," whose lyrics were written by Francis Scott Key during the War of 1812, didn't officially become the national anthem until 1916. But even in Revolutionary times the melody of the future anthem was well known; it came from a popular late-18th century English drinking tune

Uh, YES, they changed some of the words, because of a "rhyming problem" they had doing it in spanish.
In the Spanish version, the translation of the first stanza is relatively faithful to the spirit of the original, though Kidron says the producers wanted to avoid references to bombs and rockets. Instead, there is "fierce combat." The translation of the more obscure second stanza is almost a rewrite, with phrases such as "we are equal, we are brothers."
|
"Even our Spanish media are saying, 'Why are we doing this, what are you trying to do?' " said Pedro Biaggi, the morning host with El Zol (99.1 FM), the most popular Hispanic radio station in the Washington area. "It's not for us to be going around singing the national anthem in Spanish. . . . We don't want to impose, we don't own the place. . . . We want to be accepted."

Of course you don't. You're probably out there marching with those illegals supporting them being in AMERICA.

Re: Spanish Star Spangled Banner????
I think it's stupid and insulting to Americans.
How about if we changed the words of La Marseillaise to fit the English language? I'll bet those French would be mighty angry. Changing one's national anthem to fit another language is ridiculous. Why not just make up another song altogether to fit your cause.

Re: Spanish Star Spangled Banner????
I still think it is a silly thing to be upset over.
The spirit of the song is still the same. It is all of a sudden supporting illegal immigration. It is support our Spanish speaking LEGAL CITIZENS.
ANd I think ti si funny that everyone keeps talking about how the French would be upset. How do we know?
Look, the truth is that English and Spanish are the two largest spoken languages in America. And there is NO OFFICIAL language to America. SInce the majority of our citizens speak one or the other..why not have the National Anthem be available to both? It reflects WHO WE ARE.
And has NOTHING to do with ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION.

Re: Spanish Star Spangled Banner????
The Marseillaise has both French and Russian versions. "O Canada" has French and English versions.
There's an English translation of The Marseillaise on Wikipedia. Does this offend you, too, or is it only when things are translated into Spanish?

Re: Spanish Star Spangled Banner????
Guess I better prepare myself for the onslaught of offended French posters...
Verse I
Arise children of our fatherland,
The day of glory has arrived!
Against the knots of tyranny,
Has raised its bloodied banner, (1)
Do you hear in the fields
The howling of these fearsome soldiers?
They are coming into your midst (2)
To slit the throats of your sons and consorts!
Chorus
To arms, citizens!
Form your battalions!
Let us march, let us march!
Let impure blood (of our enemies)
Soak the furrows (of our fields)
Verse II
What does this horde of slaves,
Traitors, and plotting kings want?
For whom these vile chains
These long-prepared irons?
Frenchmen, for us, ah! What outrage,
What fury must it arouse?
It is us they dare plan
To return to the old slavery!
Chorus
Verse III
What! These foreign cohorts!
They would make laws in our courts!
What! These mercenary phalanxes
Would cut down our warrior sons
Good Lord! By chained hands
Our brow would yield under the yoke
The vile despots would have themselves be
The masters of destiny
Chorus
Verse IV
Tremble, tyrants and traitors
The shame of all good men
Tremble! Your parricidal schemes
Will receive their just reward
Against you we are all soldiers
If they fall, our young heroes
France will bear new ones
Ready to join the fight against you
Chorus
Verse V
Frenchmen, as magnanimous warriors
Bear or hold back your blows
Spare these sad victims
That they regret taking up arms against us
But not these bloody despots
These accomplices of Bouillé
All these tigers who mercilessly
Ripped out their mothers' wombs
Chorus
Verse VI
Sacred patriotic love
Lead [and] support our avenging arms
Liberty, cherished liberty
Fight back with your defenders
Under our flags, let victory
Hurry to your manly tone
So that your enemies, in their last breath [before death]
See your triumph and our glory!
Chorus
Verse VII
We shall enter the career (3)
When our elders will no longer be there
There we shall find their ashes [lit. dust]
And the mark of their virtues
[We are] Much less jealous of surviving them
Than of sharing their coffins
[For] We shall have the sublime pride
Of avenging or joining [lit. following] them
Chorus
