Porn idustry and conservative Christians agree!
WASHINGTON (AP) - A lot of cities have red light districts -- areas where adult entertainment can be found. But should the Internet have such an area?
A couple of Democratic senators are saying yes. Both Max Baucus of Montana and Mark Pryor of Arkansas have introduced legislation that would tell the Bush administration to create such a zone.
The .xxx domain would become the home of any pornographic Web sites on the Internet. The lawmakers and other supporters of the plan say that would make it easier for parents to filter out material they don't want their children to see.
But it's unclear whether the measure would win wide support. Ironically, Christian conservatives and the pornography industry both oppose the bill.

Obviously the porn industry isn't going away, so I'm all for a law that would make it easier to keep that filth away from kids. The way it is right now, you can type in almost any keyword..even something completely innocent and what pops up is FAR from innocent. It's hard, no impossible to filter it all out. I can't believe people would be against protecting children.

Re: Porn idustry and conservative Christians agree!
As a christian, I would have to say that I think it's a good idea from what I read. Porn is going to exist on the net no matter what, better that you have to go to a specific place than stumble upon it.
For example, my little sister was doing a project on the white house. She entered a dot com instead of dot gov and it pulled up a porn site.
I don't understand why the christian community wouldn't be more in favor.

Yesterday I was looking for some pictures, so I Googled "amber" hoping to find some really cool images of insects entombed in amber - you know, the fossilized tree sap stuff. I found a whole bunch of "Amber"... too many with her on all fours and her bare *** in the air. I gave up.
I like the idea of the xxx domain, but I think there needs to be some legalistic(?) oversight otherwise it won't work.

^ Awesome rock!
I'm also for an xxx domain, not only for kids but I also find it annoying myself to surf for something innocent and come up with porn sites.

Re: Porn idustry and conservative Christians agree!
I don't get why the Consertive Christians don't support such a bill.
At least they need to get porn sites to stop hijacking site names. I know a teacher that put together a bunch of links to help his students study geology. The links were initially all leading to geology sites, but one day the kids click on one of the links and there is a buck naked woman on the screen!
It would have been funny except he had to call each one of his student's parents and explain what happened.

Porn sites dont want the .xxx because then people wouldn't stumble upon them and stay to look around. I can't for the life of me think why a christian group would be against this. I have thought for a long time they should do it this way.

There's no way to get rid of porn altogether(I hate that it exists at all on the net), so I'm for something like this.It would be easier to block them I guess.

Re: Porn idustry and conservative Christians agree!
I think people are afraid that making porn more difficult to access would be in conflict with the freedom of speech. However, I'm inclined to agree that there should be harsher restrictions, especially when it involves children. Some of the recent stories that have emerged about pedophiles using the internet to find victims is very scary. I'm glad that there are some resources out there like Cybertipline where you can report xxx items regarding children, or get information on how to protect children from these people!

Re: Porn idustry and conservative Christians agree!
Having a seperate site for porn sites seems like a great compromise between freedom of speech and keeping people from stumbling on it. The other day at work I was trying to do an internet search I don't remember what I typed in but a website with a bunch of adults getting spanked came up. I had no clue what it was until it pop up.

Re: Porn idustry and conservative Christians agree!
I definitely agree! And I have had the same experience! It is very embarrassing when it happens in an office or with people around. Have you ever seen Love Actually? It happens to one of the characters in the movie...
Did anyone see one of the big AP articles today about social networking sites and how they are starting to run internet safety ads for kids? I think it's on a lot of different sites but here's one link i found Sites Running Child Safety Ads Did you see the stat about how social networking sites like MySpace give people access to 60 million people online? Also, the ads were created by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children...that's the organization that runs cybertipline as well.
