Default Need you unbiased opinion regarding DH's ex.

Wondering if I could have your opinions?

DH has a ten year old child. The mother is extremely controlling and basically forced DH out of the child's life. To make a long story short, DH came back into the child's life on his eighth bday and has been attempting to exercise visitation ever since. She fought vehemently in court, basically wanting DH to pay his child support (which he has always done) but otherwise disappear.

We finally got a court order in Sept. and the child has been coming to our home for visitation. She has been relatively "nice" since the court order (she is one of those people who acts like things were their own idea once forced to do something). Which is good!

Now here is the question: Do you think it is appropriate for DH and his ex to go for coffee with the child when he goes to pick him up to "talk". The last visitation she requested this. My stance is that it is not appropriate. I understand that they need to communicate re the child; however, I do not see why this cannot be done over the phone or where the child is being picked up. When DH arrived at the coffee shop to pick up the child he did not go in. He merely asked his son to wait in the car and then asked her what she wanted to talk about. She had about 2 minutes of conversation (ie here is his homework, please make sure it is done).

So do you think it is appropriate for DH to have coffee with his ex?
