I was painting my daughters nails tonight with pretty pink polish she picked out. My 8 year old son wanted his done as well. So I did. He was so happy, and has been talking about it ever since (its been a few hours). He said "This is supposed to be a girl thing, but I dont care, I LOVE it!" The only thing he is worried about is that the kids in his class wont believe him that it is polish, they will think he used marker.

So is this something you would allow? Would you say no if he asked? If you would say no, how would you explain to him why he wasnt allowed to wear it?

BTW he said next time he wants green polish.

I don't think I would let Brad or Blake do it. There are lots of things I don't mind them doing that would seem "girly" but the nailpolish thing isn't one of them.

Earring? Sure, after they had some time to make sure it was what they wanted. Long hair? Sure. Participate in a predominantly woman's activity such as ballet or cheerleading? Sure.

I would NOT let my son wear nail polish and I have told him that. My son btw, is 3! Not 8, And and 8 he should understand that that is something that girls do.

I'd let my son wear clear polish. It sounds like your son saw you doing something special with his sister and wanted the same special time too. A little nail polish won't uurt him. My cousin wanted my grandmother to put pigtails in his hair when we were kids because she did it for the girls and so she did. He was the oldest boy and there were us three girls ahead of him. The other boys were babies, so he was the odd guy out. Now he is a sweet, caring, gentle and very loving 23 year old man, who I know will make a very good daddy some day.

I don't even own any fingernail polish, that stuff is bad for you. I wouldn't let children wear it at all, but when they are older and able to make their own choices then it's up to them whether they wear it or not.

My son wears nailpolish all the time. I have even bought him his own. He´s 4. I can´t say that I`m that homophobic that I think some nailpolish will do much damage.

i think it's cute! i think the last time my mom painted my brother's nails he was 9. and trust me, he's not any less of a man because of it now. when and if I have a son, i'll be more than happy to paint his nails if he asks.

I paint my 3 yr olds nails only when he sees me doing mine and he insists on me doing his. If my 9 yr old wanted his done I would do it too. It's his fingers and if he wants them painted then I am not going to stop him. But I am sure if he went to school like that and kids made fun of him then he wouldn't be painting them anymore.
