Moms In Touch

Should groups like this be allowed to meet on school grounds? Would you be bothered if they met at your child's school?

Re: Moms In Touch
No, I wouldn't be bothered. However, if other groups, like Atheist or Satanist organizations, asked for permission to hold meetings at the school and were denied (without good cause), then I would be bothered.

Re: Moms In Touch
I would be fine with them meeting after school, if the school was open to any group meeting there in the off hours.
I would not be open to them meeting up while classes are being held.

From what I've seen heard, they generally meet during school hours, bu tnot with the children at all, only the moms - open to anyone who wants to come. I've seen them meet at private schools and churches but have never heard of a group meeting at a public school. Not to say they don't, I just haven't heard of any that do. I agree with roxrkool. I personally wouldn't have a problem with them meeting at my child's school during school hours or after hours, esp if they don't interact with the children at all.

If they aren't interacting with the children, I'd have no problem with it.

Did Rox say that?
I personally wouldn't want any religious group meeting during school hours.

Re: Moms In Touch
I would be okay with it after school hours and as long as other groups are given the same permission is requested. I'd even be okay with completely voluntary student envolvement. At my high school, there was a bulletin board where all the clubs could "advertise" where and when they met and any requirements for membership. I wouldn't be okay with any more aggressive recruiting than that though.

Re: Moms In Touch
Come to think of it, I really don’t want any groups meeting while my kids are in school. People coming in and out of the school could be viewed as a security violation. I know at my children’s elementary school, they lock the doors if they see suspicious people near the school area. I doubt any of these types of women would come in with a gun or anything of that nature. But it does open the door for other crazy groups to hold meetings while my children are in school. No thanks.

Hmmm.... I assumed it was after hours.
I think it's a bit weird to meet at school during school hours, but off the top of my head, I can't think of any reason not to allow them there - other than the though of people praying for teachers and students to be more 'Biblical' somewhat insulting and condescending. They seem harmless enough since they don't interact with the kids.
And of course that's as long as other groups are allowed the same privileges as well. But I imagine if too many groups met during school hours, it could be a little overcrowded.
I think all non-student and non-academic activities should be after-hours.

Re: Moms In Touch
Sorry, I can see how what I said is not clear. I was making a statement that I agreed with what she said ("However, if other groups, like Atheist or Satanist organizations, asked for permission to hold meetings at the school and were denied (without good cause), then I would be bothered.") and then stating my personal view, not saying I agreed with her about during school hours, since she didn't seem to mention when she thought they were meeting.

Re: Moms In Touch
Well it says (see below) that they are praying for school/children/staff, etc.... Thats why I would have a problem with it. I don't really want people coming to my kids school and praying for my kid. Especially if I don't follow their faith (one of their statements was they they believe all children are born with a sinful nature).
Moms In Touch International is two or more moms who meet for one hour each week to pray for their children, their schools, their teachers, and administrators.
Mothers, grandmothers, or anyone who is willing to pray for a specific child and school.
Moms who believe that prayer makes a difference.
Our Purpose is . . . .
To stand in the gap for our children through prayer.
To pray that our children will receive Jesus as Lord and Savior, then stand boldly in their faith.
To pray for teachers and staff.
To pray that teachers, administrative staff, and students would come to faith in Jesus Christ.
To provide support and encouragement to moms who carry heavy burdens for their children.
To pray that our schools may be directed by Biblical values and high moral standards.
To be an encouragement and a positive support to our schools

So uh - it's ABSOLUTELY necessary to hold the meetings IN the school? Years ago, when I was still a xian/believer, the church I attended had a group similar to this, and they just met in homes. Each member of the group hosted the rest of the group for a month and they met every Tuesday - they also took baking, etc., in to the teachers each month.
Why can't these people just meet in a home? I'm with Kady on the whole "if it's not ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY for a group to be in the school during school hours thing" - they can meet elsewhere. I'd feel the same way regardless of the group's religious (or other) affiliation.

Re: Moms In Touch
I would be bothered if they met in or at my child's school at any time. There are plenty of meeting rooms in churches or they can pray in their homes. I definately don't want my Dd's school to be directed by some group's interpretation of Biblical values.

Re: Moms In Touch
I don't know why they would want to go to a public school when there are so many other places that they could meet and not ruffle feathers. Would the school be allowing it because they need to create revenue by renting out the space? I know that it would ruffle my feathers for sure. It would seem to be that they would choose a controversial location, for just that purpose, to create contoversy.
