And this may make me sound like a witch, but I instantly lose respect for a pregnant woman who smokes, or a parent who smokes with their children around. I know a couple who have three grown children. One of those suffered from bad asthma, and yet they would all the time smoke in front of him in the house. I have seen many a person smoking inside their closed car with their child inside. Unfortunately, people do not want to accept the risks. They want to live in their fantasy world, choosing to believe that no one has proven the risks etc. etc. etc.
I feel the same way. I can't help but to lose a little respect because of the selfishness of it.

I do not think it is right to smoke while you are pregnant. Your child's health should be more important than anything else. If the person can't stop completely then trying to cut back will be good as well b/c I know it is hard for some people to stop smoking.

I wouldn't agree with it and I don't think anyone should smoke around kids or during pregnancy but I imagined they see the warnings and it is not their fault that a 'substance ' in their that is bad but is so addicting so I won't put it against them for smoking its something I would never will do . I can't even stand the smell.

I am totally against smoking while pregnant! I'm not a smoker though, but I would hate to be around people that did smoke or be in a smoky place if I were pregnant. I know some women do it and it may calm them down, but look at the risk your taking for you unborn baby. Yeah the baby may be alright, but what if down the road the baby's not ok and it has to do with the smoke? Thats just something I couldn't live with for the rest of my life!! Its fine to put yourself in danger, but not your unborn child. I'm not saying quit smoking, but be smart and quit while your pregnant and breastfeeding.

I just want to say to all the women who gave up smoking when they wanted to become, or found out they were pregnant.

Being pregnant is the intro into motherhood.... if we can't learn to be unselfish while pregnant, by giving up the things that we would not offer a baby once it is born, then what kind of mother does that make us?

Of course, like some mums, when i was pregnant the first time round in 89, i smoked occasionally in the beginning, other mums did, and my doctor said the withdrawal would be worse than the smoking. Alot of us REALLY didnt know how horrible it was, AND, way more people smoked back then. (often now, smokers are looked at as though they have sprouted a third eye, )

Then, at prenatal classes, they showed a video of a woman having her u/s and the heart rate changes and distress of the baby in utero while the woman puffed. That was enough for me. I quit.

(working on having #5 right now)... while pregnant, I avoid all the no-no's, EVEN caffeine. Its only nine months
I was doing daycare for a woman pregnant with #3, not only did she go with 'the boys' after work to have a beer here and there, (wasnt showing and no one knew), but she puffed weed occasionally and smoked cigarettes full time. I said.. "would you give your child weed? booze? cigarettes? of COURSE not! So Who the 'hello' gives you the right to force it into your child's body when he or she cant even say NO!!!" I was pregnant at the same time with my last one and was VERY emotional about it!

Just wanted to add, that I am totally against smoking any time, and especially when you're pregnant, My mom smoked while pregnant with me and both sisters, my younger sister is 16 years younger than me and my older sister and I were there for the birth, a few hours into it, my mom had to have an emergency c-section due to placental abruption which we later found out that the risk of this is increased by smoking, and my little sister almost died, thank God we were already at the hospital and she was being monitored when it happened...My mom still smokes and has tried many times to quit and has failed I know it's difficult to quit and am just very thankful I never picked up the habit...and yes absolutely the dad should have to quit as well, you don't want him smoking around the baby/child etc...it causes ear infections, allergies and duh..Cancer!!

I smoked before I was pregnant and stopped when I found out, I have to admit I smoked a few years after I had the baby due to stress but stopped a couple of years back, I am completely against smoking during pregnancy, the risks to the baby outweigh any kind of pleasure you might get.
