Dogs or cats?
Which is better?
I say CATS!!
Of course, I haven't done any research on that. I am just coming from personal experience.

Re: Dogs or cats?
I like cats. They are small, pretty independant, and *my* cat doens't chew up the entire house. I don't have worry about stepping in dog crap in the back yard and I dont have to walk a cat. My cat wouldn't dig holes in the back yard either.

Re: Dogs or cats?
I have 2 dogs but I prefer cats. DH is not a cat person so thats why we don't have one at the moment. I will eventually have a cat again althou DH is unaware of it.

Re: Dogs or cats?
I like cats, but prefer dogs. We have 3 dogs. I wouldn't mind getting a Persian(sp)cat someday, but they are expensive. If we ever move into the country, we'll probably have cats for mousers.

Re: Dogs or cats?
I have both and I couldn't choose one over the other. We have 2 cats and a dog and I find them equally lovable, and equally a pain in the arse.

Re: Dogs or cats?
I have both....one of each and pretty soon (this fall) we are going to add to our family and adopt a siberian husky. I already have the breeder chosen abd may put down a deposit sometime this spring. Poor kitty will be outnumbered.

Re: Dogs or cats?
Dogs by far!!!!
Growing up we had the most evil cats, so I'm kind of biased against them. I do know there are very sweet cats. I just prefer the personality of dogs more.

Lovely.
I'm definitely a "cat person," but I love both cats and dogs. I'd love to have a dog, but I don't think our lifestyle would be good for one right now. We have two cats that we adore.

Re: Dogs or cats?
I'm allergic to cats and used to be kind of afraid of them. They can be mean or weird and are unpredictable. I'm sure they sensed it because whenever I was around one it wouldn't leave me alone. Anyway, one adopted us a few years ago and now I'm fine with the species as long as I wash my hands after petting. I hate cleaning the bloodydamn litter box though and our cat has a habit of missing it whilst urinating. I would love to get a dog too, I grew up with dogs and Ds adores them, but Dh remains unconvinced at the moment. I'd like a big dog that we could take for long walks and romp around with, you just can't do that with a cat. Dd would like a kitten, she adores meow-meow, but she was already a grown when she found us. I told her if we ever get one it has to learn to fetch.

Re: Dogs or cats?
If ya can't figure out by my username....I like all critters!
I generally have one of each, but my cat was hit by a car a few weeks ago She was a feral cat when I got her, but we were able to get her mostly tame when she gave birth to her kittens, but she still loved hunting in the woods. With baby on the way, I just don't feel like I am in a position to get another cat.
Anyway, we are down to one dog now, but I'm sure we will find another kitty one day that needs to be loved.....

Re: Dogs or cats?
Neither, but if HAD to have one, I'd go with a cat. I have nothing against either one. I enjoy visiting family and playing with their pets. Like Kristen, I'm not a fan of the animal hair everywhere. Plus with a 1 year old and a 2 year old, it's just not an additional responsibility I want to take on right now. Maybe in a few years, when they can help out with it.

Re: Dogs or cats?
I adore cats, for most of the reasons already listed: Independent, low maintenance, pretty loyal, cuddly, quiet, etc.
I really dislike dogs though. :/
