Default To Americans: Concerning Tony Blair

Quite a few British people, not ALL, but a few, have lately formed the opinion that our Prime Minister Tony Blair is nothing but Bush's little 'lapdog'. Many people believe that Blair has now managed to earn himself the image of following Bush around and taking his orders from him, so to speak. Obviously a lot of us have opinions on Bush too.

Just out of curiosity, what is your opinion, as an American, of Tony Blair?

Anyone associated with Bush right now will inevitably be seen in a bad light. He has definitely taken a hard hit...or set himself up for one...whatever one believes. As for Tony Blair...I know some about him and his political career but I really don't have much of an opinion about him...maybe that says a lot in itself. If I had to use one word to describe the way I see him...I would say "fence-rider". He tends to have opinions that are contradictory to each other. I'm no expert but that's just the opinion I have.

I guess quite a few Americans compare him to Neville Chamberlain.

I, myself, like him. Our two countries back eachother, support eachother. I think he did the noble thing by sticking with us through this war. I was a huge bush supporter for a long time. I think he did the right thing by going to war with Iraq, but I think it was handled REALLY badly. They needed a new leader and they were dangerous. No weapons may have been found, but what do you want when you say 'we are going to come in looking for weapons, not now, but sometime soon' you may as well say "get them out now before we get there!!! Like I said, handled badly. But back to the point. I do not believe he is bush's lapdog. I think he respects the relationship between our two countries and believes in what bush was trying to accomplish. I think everyone just wishes it went a heck of a lot better yk?

I don't think Blair is Bush's lapdog--I think they just share the same crackpot neocon philosophy of foreign affairs, which can be summed up as: brute force is omnipotent, diplomacy is for pansies, and Israel must not be inconvenienced at any cost. The world is well rid of Blair, I just hope Gordon Brown has a bit more common sense. (And while he's at it I hope he gets J.K. Rowling a peerage!)

If he were to update his look and invest in some Crest Whitestrips, I might would consider having him as my lapdog.
