hi

i am the mother of a beautiful year old. i worry a lot about her, but i worry more about the future. i was given this link http://www.becomingapua.com/2007/09/...a-16-year-old/ about a guy who is 22 wanting to have sex with a 16 year old. that worries me even more about my daughter growing up.

is it common to worry about this? what would you do if your daughter was in this situation?

It's not against the law where he lives so theres nothing LEGALLY wrong with it. However IMO it completely depends on the persons mentality.. be they 16 or 22. In this case i say its a bad idea, the girl is clearly "acting her age" and most of hte time 16 year olds don't understand sex and its consequences. And... well, the guy doesn't sound that smart either so its bad in both respects.

Now I do NOT think it has anything to do with AGE as in the number, only the mentality of the individual. If it were a 32year old going after a 26 year old I am pretty sure it wouldn't be that big of a problem even though the age difference is the same. It all leads back to how mature they are really.

I have to agree. My daughter's biological father and I are 5 years apart. We starting dating (and sleeping together) when I was 16 and he was 21. In hindsight, I can say it was a bad idea. I certainly wouldn't want my daughter doing the same thing. I can only hope that when that moment comes for her, she'd feel comfortable talking to me about it.

On the flip side, my DH is 4 and a half years younger than I am. So it's almost the same situation but in reverse. As we get older and more mature, age matters less and less.

Legal age is 16 there? What the hell is going on in this world??? 16 years old is still a child, and should NOT be having sex. Thats my take. I would be worried just the same.

If my dd was sleeping with a 21 year old, I would be filing charges against that 21 year old. He is an adult, she is NOT. I do not care how mature of a 16 year old it is. It is still wrong, illegal, and plain and simple not right.

I have nothing against age differences. But for gods sake, at least wait until they are not a child anymore.

It is def. a matter of maturity and at 16yo I don't feel a child is mature enough to make adult decisions.
I don't think it is really a matter of the number of years older than she, that he is. My DH is 13 years older than me, we met when I was 24. If I had been 16 and he had been 29, and we had met and started dating, I would hope someone would step in.
