Icon5 What do you know about "coasting"?

Hello ladies-

I've written a few times throughout this last cycle. I am currenlty in the 2ww. I have a question about "coasting."

This was my first cycle on injectables. Apparently, I overresponded (go figure) to the meds (gonal f/lupron), and they were concerned that I was at risk for OHSS. They lowered my dose, and monitored my E2 levels, sure enough I responded and they decreased (1165 down to 679) , then the next day my b/w showed that my E2 was then too low (270) , so the increased my dose, and I "rebounded", my E2 was back up over 700. They told me to trigger that night, and my IUI was on Sunday morning. Also, my RE said there was a lot of CM and that this was a good thing? I understand the importance of CM when trying to conceive naturally, but what is the relevance when doing iui?

Anyway, I have heard that when your E2 yo-yo's like mine did, it compromises the quality of your eggs? Anybody know anything about this or have they experienced a cycle like this?

I was happy the cycle didn't get cancelled, but I am wondering what the chances are since it was such a roller coaster!

the more cm, the more 'stickiness' for the chance of implantation. and the cm is generally pretty abundant at the time of ovulation.

Well a few of my cycles went that way. I don't know if it reduced egg quality or not. I always had lots of cm since I too over respond. That is how I could tell my e2 was too high. I would get way too much cm cd 7 or 8. So I had them start my b/w earlier. I was like my own doctor. I told them when they needed to do stuff becasue if I waited for them my number would be in the 2000's before cd 9.

If I may ask...Have you tried Metformin yet? I believe that is why I was able to get pregnant on 2 natural cycles. You situation sounds alot like mine.

Angie-
Thanks for the good wishes. I was reading a post you had on another thread, and I could so relate. The unbelievable ride IF is for you and your husband. It is exhausting. It makes me so desperate, and I hate feeling/being that way. Let's hope everything works out for all of these well deserving women!

Dani- Thanks for the info. Did you get pg on one of your "coasting" cycles? You said my case sounded like yours, what was your case?

I have not tried Metformin. I have seen that others are taking that, but I am not clear about what that does.

Thanks everyone......all this up and down makes me doubt the strength of this cycle and my eggs......hope I'm wrong!

Good luck everyone!

Well I only got pregnant after my first IUI/Med cycle. I only had one follie and it was not a coasting cycle. I didn't get pregnant any of my other medicated cycles. I had 2 or 3 with 6-7 follies and I didn't get pregnant.

Why I think your situation is like mine is because you over respond and I see you have pcos. I was also annovulatory. After I was on metformin and got my lap done I decided to see if my cycles regulated theirselves. And they kinda did. I got pregnant my first cycle after my lap. I mc'd but I was happy to have gotten pregnant on my own. They I skipped a cycle and I ovulated on my own (60 day cycle but it was a cycle). Then I tried to get pregnant my next cycle and I got my bfp and now I'm 22 weeks pregnant.

That is why I asked if you tried metformin. I'm not insulin resistant and I'm not overweight. I was underweight. So the things I think helped me was that I gain 20 lbs and I took metformin. If I would have known I might have tried metformin first for 6 months. I guess it takes a while to kick in.

Good luck. If you have any more questions please ask.

Dani

oh and I don't think I mentioned I have PCOS. That is why I started the metformin. I never had af on my own. My first RE told me it takes about 6 months for the met to kick in.
