Newbie to IUI
We are going to be doing out first IUI... about Mid-March, which only gives me this cycle without meds to get a BFP.
My RE gives his patients to option to choose which ever inject they are comfortable with doing, all of this was covered in a required orientation class DH and I had to attend last week. Regardless, it was very informative, and better for DH to hear it from the experts then me try to explain it all to him.
Seems that most women choose to use either follistim or gonal-f. Of course I'm curious to know how those drugs went for you, but more so curious about gonal-f. The nurse did not go over how to use their pen, because it was too confusing. The lit they gave us makes it sound so confusing using the gonal pen, especially when there's not enough of drug in a vial and dial up extra on a new vial. My other option is Bravelle, and I would also like to know about that.
I won't know what dosage the RE will want me on, but once the basic is done on CD3 of course I'll know. I'm checking all these specialty pharms out there, and seems like the prices are rather close, and even the prices are comparably close when thinking of how many vials of bravelle I would need to follistim.
Any advice to help me pick would greatly be appreciated. I'm considering getting the drugs from either Schraft's or Freedrom Drug, but even the later one is limited since it doesn't appear they carry bravelle or folli. Maybe there is another pharm out there that someone suggests to check into?? As for trigger shot, I don't know what he will recommend.
TIA for the input ladies!

Re: Newbie to IUI
Hellllooo and welcome!!!
I am a Gonal F gal....I did gonal f and I got preggers with DS...I also did gonal f this cycle and we will find out how it went Wednesday (well POAS).....I did not use the pen I did 75 units from a vial....I had a prefiled syringe with saline and I had to put it in the vial with the powdered gonal f mix it up then with draw it back into the prefiled syringe then inject....so I do not know much about the "pen".....BUT I do know it worked for me!!!!
Good luck and TONS of baby dust your way!!!!

Re: Newbie to IUI
Thanks Nicole. I'm beginning to think I'll go with gonal-f.

Re: Newbie to IUI
Tandy I'll be doing the gonal-f pen starting tomorrow, my nurse explained it to us. I'll have to read more to find out what to do if you run out though.

Re: Newbie to IUI
khickey... cycle buddies would be cool to share this uncharted waters that we are about to travel on.
TTC#1... Keep me posted about the pen using. I think I'll go with gonal anyways. I guess I just need to decide to use the pen or mix my own.

Re: Newbie to IUI
I've never used the GonalF but have used Follistim 2x's. I think it's really easy. All you do is turn the pen to the correct dosage and inject. Good luck with whatever you try!

Re: Newbie to IUI
Hello and welcome!! Good luck to you whatever you choose. I just started the Follistim pen in January and it is super easy. I am sure the Gonal pen would be too. I personally feel like it is way easier than mixing things. That would be my two cents. Good luck!
