Default New to IUI

Hello all,
I am new to all of this and would like some advice, information, success stories, anything really that is encouraging... I am new to the idea of IUI, when to my Dr., and he is pretty aggressive about getting us Preggers... because I am 36 and have unexplained infertility.
I just received Novarel 10,000 U (HCG), Follistim AQ 900 IU (3 of those), Leuprolide (14 day kit) and supposed to be getting Crinone... I don't have a clue what all of those do, or if anyone has had that combination before... I also take metformin, prenatals, folic acid as well as baby aspirin because all that I have read has said that the baby aspirin is helpful for the uterus...
AF is supposed to arrive around the 15th, then I go in for lessons on how to do all of this, then IUI... so anything encouraging would be nice, especially if you have used the same things he is prescribing for me.
Thanks so much in advance,

Mel

Infertility is a hard road but it will hopefully end in great results. You have come to the right place for support and encouragement, the ladies on here are the best. I have not used any of the meds you are prescribed so I don't have an insite on those but I am sure there is someone on here who has. Good luck!

Thanks, I appreciate it. I am hoping for the best but I can't and don't worry about things I can't control.... I just wanted to hear something positive to keep my spirits up about it all.
Good luck with you these coming months...

You can see my story in my signature. My husband and I had been trying for almost 2 years and I got my first bfp last week. I am 37. I want to wish you luck on this journey. It can be rough, but the support here will get you through. Let us know if you need anything.

I am a lurker here due to a friend but I have had many IUIs.

these boards are great for support and answers to questions, and some of the people you meet here become good friends.

I will share my experiences, in 04 after giving up on finding Mr Right, I decided to try the donor route for a child, on my second IUI I got pregnant but miscarried at 8wks and had to have a D&C. I was devestated and it took me a year to metally recover but I went ahead and tried again in 05 and 06 without success and it hurt but I decided to try again this year. This time I was using injectiables and not just clomid like I did on all previous trys and on the 3 attempt last year I got pregnant. I didnt think that the try in July that worked because I stressed out at work, the day of my IUI I had to wait over an hour with my donor sperm sitting there for that 1 1/2, I though there was no way the little guys would make it, and I didnt have a great count of little guys, so I just gave up , decided not to even stress over POAS or testing and ordered more meds to try 1 more time. I still have the meds. Also I just turned 38 and my son is now 3 weeks old

SO my best suggestion and this is my opinions too is to listen to your RE, do not stress over anything thing involving the IUI and dont POAS till the day your AF is really due. The POAS thing is easier said than done but if you stress over all the possible signs and test early you can wear yourself down and that wont help you body when TTC.

Good luck and hang in there.

ArtGrrl, I am starting IUI too. I started Follistim (225iu/day) last Friday and started the monitoring Monday. The medication part is pretty easy and the shots, at least for me, don't hurt at all. Then the monitoring starts, almost every other day you will go to the doctor and have a blood test and an ultrassound. They will count the nr. of follicles and measure them. You might increase/decrease Follistim dependind on the results. If you have the right number of follicles, after about 10 -14 days, you will probably get another shot (to ovulate) and go for the IUI.

I am anxious about the nr. and size of the follicles. Too many good follicles, they cancel the IUI (some doctors offer IVF instead), too little, your chances are very low. It is a balance that you doctor has to achieve and it is hard the first time, because he does not really know how you body will react.

Some people suggest acupuncture to keep you less anxious and to try with ovulation. Other suggest massage, meditation... anything to avoid anxiety!

I wish you good luch and please, keep us posted!

Thanks everyone for the encouraging words and stories.
I have all of my meds sitting in the fridge, however, I haven't seen AF yet.
Last time AF made her appearance was 3/18, then on 3/27 I had surgery to remove polyps... and now April has come and gone and nothing. I am hoping it shows up soon so I can begin the process. I don't know if that delay is normal after that surgery, and my RE hasn't called me back to let me know if it is or not, but I am hoping this weekend it makes its grand appearance. This is the first time I have actually looked forward to AF. Any thoughts??

Hello there, I did my 2nd IUI cycle earlier this week, my siggie tells my story!
If you do not get AF within the next couple of weeks, you might want to talk to your RE about giving you Provera, this medication is used to bring on AF. A few days after you finish taking this medication AF starts. Then hopefully you can move on with your IUI cycle.

Hi there
I had a medicated IUI cycle with clomid 50mg, 1 follicle and pregnant 1st time, unfortunately I had a miscarriage at 10weeks but it does work and can work first time despite some really scary stats. I also take metformin as I have pcos and this is supposed to help the egg mature as well.
We will try again with another cycle in a couple of months as we aren't allowed straight after m/c but i really do wish you all the luck with your iui, really hope you get your BFP soon.

Hello everyone - I just had my first IUI cycle 4/24 & 4/25 I took 9 days Gonal F and then Ovidrel to ovulated. I do not have great expectations for this cycle as the week of the Ovidrel and inseminations both my grandparents passed away and I was upset a lot and had some wine that week. I have, however, had sore BB's for a week now. I am 10 dpiui of course I took a HPT and got a BFN but it is really early. I did not have a healthy cycle this go due to stress and stuff so I will not be upset if it did not work I am however changing my patterns and lifestyle to be a lot healthier and hopefully the second one will work. Good luck to everyone!

Well good luck to everyone..
I started my cycle today, so I will start the follistim 225 each shot and the leuprolide 10 each shot tomorrow night, then I will go in for my first round of ultrasounds and blood work on Tuesday. So I hope all goes well. Then we are going to do back to back IUI's when the time is right, I believe 24 and 48 hours after the trigger.
Excited, nervous and anxious, but trying to stay calm, because I don't want to jack anything up.

Will keep you all updated.

Mel
