Icon5 New Here and Looking for a Support Group

Hello Ladies!
I am new here for posting, but have been reading your advice for weeks. Thank you! My DH and I are struggling with fertility right now. We have been TTC for 14 months now. We got a BFP in May of '06, the FIRST month of TTC! But sadly, we had a MC in June of '06 when I was only 6 weeks along. We just ASSUMED that we would be pregnant again very shortly. But months with by with nothing.
In April, DH had a SA and was found to have 5.4 million sperm with 17% motility. We went to an urologist in mid June, and DH was diagnosed with a Varicocele, level II. Also, DH was asked to do another SA in 1 month due (mid July) to the fact that he had the flu 2 weeks before his first sample.
We had our first RE appoitment on July 3rd. It was not fun. The RE didn't really tell me anything that I didn't already know, and gave us no plan. I understand that he wants to wait until the next SA is done, but I NEED A PLAN!!!

Anyway...what do you think the RE will say? If DH first sample of 5.4 million, with 17% motility is correct, what do you think RE will do for treatment? What if sperm count and motility are higher, then what?

Also, has anyone's DH done the corrective surgery for a Varicocele and had any luck?

Thanks

Hey there....WElcome to the board. I am actually a grad from this board. Unfortunatly my dh had a SA of 0 so I do not really know what to tell you about that...BUT there is plenty of ladies here that will be able to offer advice about that....HOWEVER my thought would be that they would try to do IUI first....by doing the IUI the sperm does not have to do as much "traveling" to get to the egg....But it really depends on what your RE's protocol is everyone is different!

Sorry that I did not help much....But I wanted to wish you tons of babydust!!!!

welcome to the board! I can't really offer much re: the SA numbers with what they'll do. but i agree with the other post, that IUIs can help with overcome that. once you have the SA done, you'll most likely meet with your RE who will then be able to put his/her best recommendation forward. Then, it depends on how aggressive you want to be. Good luck! this board is great for support.

Hi Carrie well I also can't help much, my DH has kind of low motility but not that much 35% sometimes 40% and the count is on the lower normal range around 10 millions, well at least is what my OB says... In my case he recommended IUI, I got pg in the first one, but m/c So now I'm on my 4th and waiting to see if it worked I think that once you have your DH SA back the RE will give you a plan... well I wrote too much but I just wanted to wish you good luck!

Hey! I'm new around here too but not new to the topic. My DH has azoospermia which is no presence of sperm (sorry for the tech) and I do not ovulate on my own (thank you clomid!) so iui is for us. We conceved our daughter on the first try and thought it would be the same this time but that's a differant post. Be patient, a great DR will help and make everything much easier. The best part....if there is any sperm at all there is a possibility. Remember...even couples with perfect fertility only have a 20% chance each try. Hope that helps!

WOW! Thank you to everyone for your welcome and advice. It's so nice to talk with people who are in the same boat, and truly understand the struggles of dealing with fertility issues. Thank you for the positive thoughts...it really helps.
