Default IUI timeframe?????

hi girls

i am going to be starting my IUI's next cycle (with any luck i will get pregnant THIS cycle and won't have too)...

my question is....

i usually am on a 28-30 day cycle - with positive opks right around the 14th day.... my DH has a very busy work schedule and i was wondering when they do the IUI?

i know it depends on a lot of things - but - can i "assume" it will be right around cycle day 14? or sooner so i don't miss O? because if it is going to be much later than day 14 - DH will be on an overnight trip.

now wouldn't that be my luck!

any other stories on what i can expect will be so helpful. i am starting to get nervous about all of this now.

Hi! Do you know what type of meds you'll be on? I find that my follies mature much quicker now that I'm on Femara/Injectibles. I also do a trigger shot, usually I have long cycles (when I actually have cycles so IF I ovulate on my own it's pretty late in the game.) I normally do IUI on cd 13..hope this helps.

IF you're dh will be out of town and can't reschedule the trip when you do IUI, maybe he could provide a sample earlier and they could freeze it until you're ready??

Good luck!

hi

this does help!!!! thank you! i am not sure what meds i will be on - i "think" it will be clomid and a trigger shot - i am almost positive that is what it will be - now that i am thinking about it.

i will ask them about freezing his swimmers - that is a good idea!

my AF is due on the 4th of July (with any luck she will be a no show)... and DH's trip is on July 23rd - so i think we should be ok for the IUI.

I o on my own okay and I found that when I took clomid I did not O when I was supposed to, even with the trigger. I am sure everyone is different though. My first Injectibles cycle I actually O'd super early, day 10 and I had to go on a drug called ANatagon the next cycle to keep me from Oing too early. Good Luck!

I think timing wise you should be okay, depending on how your body reacts to the Clomid. Good luck! Sending lots of babydust your way!!

Hi Jenn,

I had that same concern when I found out we'd be doing IUI this month. My husband just started a new job and it wouldn't really look good if he asked for time off right away! So I asked about it on this board and all of these wonderful ladies helped to soothe my anxiety by letting me know that DH could probably go in before me to deliver his sample. I had previously just been on 100mg of clomid cd 5-9 but this time around I took my clomid cd3-7 and then a repronex injection on cd9. I am going for my ultrasound tomorrow (cd12) and based on those results we'll scheduled the IUI which I'm assuming will be either the following day (cd13) or Wednesday (cd14). I'll be triggering, too. I found that my cycles were a bit longer (32-34 days) so I usually O'ed cd16 or 17. It seems like with IUIs the RE tries to time things earlier to ensure cathing that little egg! It sounds like your timing will be okay, though. By the way, I read on the other forum that you won an insurance appeal-congrats! I'm going through the headache of that right now and I was wondering if you'd mind sharing the details of your experience? I called my insurance company and they flat out said "no" they don't cover ANYTHING related to infertility except my ultrasounds and office visits. Did your insurance not cover it in the first place and then you submitted an appealed or did they originally provide coverage and then your claim denied for some reason? I'm just wondering if there's any way I can get my insurance to cover at least some of the cost. Good luck to you and congratulations again! I bet that's one less worry you have now!!!

hi girls!!!!

hope you all had a great weekend!

thank you so much for all the responses - it makes me feel a little better and i can stop giving DH the guilt trip

Jenn - i live in massachusetts - and infertility is covered 100% (if you meet their definition of infertility)... so the reason i got denied at first was because i didn't meet the states "definition". so at that point - i wrote a letter and told them they were nuts!!!! it was a pretty long letter just stating everything that i have done and gone through to try to conceive. when they got my appeal - they submitted it to the medical director at my insurance company - and he approved it saying that i did in fact meet the "definition".

if i were you - i would send your insurance company a letter, stating all that you have gone through.... and send it out. i made sure i sent my letter to all the departments that i thought might have a say in the matter. i sent it to the claims department, appeal department and care management. i also sent them all emails.... at least if they have something in writing...along with your phone call - it might help.

i wish you the BEST of luck!!!!

Wow, that is so awesome! It's amazing how much I've learned by joining this board! You inspired me to do some research of my own. I found this information:

This state's law requires certain insurers that cover pregnancy services to offer coverage for infertility diagnosis and treatment - including in vitro fertilization. Therefore insurers must let employers know this coverage is available. However, the law does not require those insurers to provide the coverage; nor does it force employers to include it in their health plans.
Okay, so... what the heck does that mean?! The state only requires some copmpanies to provide coverage but not all? How much sense does that make? How can I find out which insurance companies the state requires to provide coverage so I can switch? Ahhhhh. So confusing. I think I'm just going to take your advice and write some letters. I've got nothing to lose.

ok - that is confusing! so they are saying that "some" insurance companies who cover maternity - cover infertility... but not "all" insurance companies that cover maternity need to cover infertility????

i would also call around and find out the ones who do cover it....when you call - just ask if maternity is covered as well as infertility treatments if you need them.

what state do you live in?? i can do some research for you too if you want.

what a pain in the a*s - why does it have to be so damn hard!!!

with any luck - you will get pregnant soon and won't need to worry about it!!!!!

Oops, I meant to say that I'm in Texas. I'm gonna start making calls and writing letters tomorrow! I wonder if I would be denied if I tried to switch because they would consider my infertility a "pre-existing condition." Insurance companies are evil like that! Guess I won't know until I try, though.

So where are you at in your cycle? What's your game plan? Are you just on Clomid right now? Hopefully you won't have to move onto IUI and this will be your special month!

hi

i switched insurance companies when i knew i would be going through treatment as well - they did not ask me - so i did not offer any information. i just asked if maternity was covered... then i asked if infertility was covered by them (i was laughing when i said it)... made it seem as though i was "just wondering".

let me know how you make out - and good luck - i hope you find one that covers it!

i am on cd14 - according to my opks i ovulated either yesterday or today! right now i am just on the clomid - i took 100mg on days 3-7. i am really praying that this is our special month too - i am so nervous about the upcoming procedures.
