I had an IUI yesterday at 9am. My RE prescribed me 4 pills of Doxycycline I guess my RE prescribes it just in case of a bacterial infection. I have never taken Doxycycline before. I'm good with Amoxicillian but I am allergic to Sulfa antibotics it makes me feel like I can't breathe. Doxycycline is in a different catorgory than The Sulfa antibotics but I am scared I will have the same reaction to the medicine.
My question is does everyone get prescribed antibotics with an IUI.
I didn't in 2003 when I did my IUI. I feel fine I haven't spotted or bleed from the IUI at all. Just wondering.

*3rd Round, Oct. '07 - Follistim & Hcg shot w/IUI-10/28/07 ** ended in chemical pregnancy 11/07
*4th Round, Feb 25th, - Follistim & Hcg shot w/IUI - Cancelled due to many mature follies.

I would ask your dr and or your pharmacist about any adverse reaction you are concerned about.

I haven't had any antibiotics, but there was one cycle where they washed my dh's sperm twice because it was cloudy and they contemplated whether to give me an antibiotic incase there was an infection. Once they washed it a second time, they found that everything was safe. Or at least that's how I remember everyting.

best advice is to ask questions--I have asked a million. Better to ask and be comfortable!

Lurking from the IVF board...

Doxycycline is prescribed for many IVF cycles. I never heard of it for an IU but I wouldn't worry about any danger since so many IVFers use it.
