Default Iui

My husband and i are planning on going in for a consult in a couple weeks after we get our taxes so we can do iui. The consult is 350 and the iui is 500 give or take. we have been ttc for over 2 yrs. I was dxed with pcos in oct 2005 - and my hubby just has a semen analysis done that said the following:

We got the results... finally the full results - a copy of it...

and its abnormal.....

volume was extremely low .4 normal is 2 or greater

ph sperm: 8 - anything over 7.1 is normal rang

apperance: normal

liquefaction: abnormal

viscosity: abnormal

sperm count: 25 million

Motility:

Grade a (fast progressive) sperms are those which swim forward fast in a straight line - like guided missiles. He has: 5.3%
Grade b (slow progressive) sperms swim forward, but either in a curved or crooked line, or slowly (slow linear or non linear motility). He has 39.6%
Grade c (nonprogressive) sperms move their tails, but do not move forward (local motility only). He has 21.6%
Grade d (immotile ) sperms do not move at all. He has 33.5%

So he only has 5.3% normal good sperms

Normal Morphology: 9.7% normal is 15%

----

What is normal sperm morphology ?

Whether the sperms are normally shaped or not - what is called their form or morphology. Ideally, a good sperm ( Sperm Video ) should have a regular oval head, with a connecting mid-piece and a long straight tail. If too many sperms are abnormally shaped (this is called teratozoospermia, when the majority of sperm have abnormalities such as round heads; pin heads; very large heads; double heads; absent tails) this may mean the sperm are functionally abnormal and will not be able to fertilise the egg. Many labs use Kruger "strict " criteria (developed in South Africa ) for judging sperm normality. Only sperm which are "perfect" are considered to be normal. A normal sample should have at least 15% normal forms (which means even upto 85% abnormal forms is considered to be acceptable !)

So he only has 9.7% which was normal formed

----------

Motile sperm: 16.3 million/ml

functional sperm 2.4 million/ml - normal is 3 or better

velocity - 8 - normal is more than 5

sperm motility index - 57 - anything over 80 is good...

-------

Our dr said that if we do iui that we have a 75% of conceiving HOPEFULLY! - I wanted to talk to people to see how many cycles they did before it was successful. Thanks!

Welcome and congrats on your upcoming cycle!

I did iui's with my 2 yr old and twins. Are you just doing iui without injectible meds? Are you doing it on clomid? .

75% chance of concieving - is that per cycle? My doctor said that I have about a 2% chance each month of concieving with my pcos without anything. With injectibles and iui's I had about a 20 - 25% each month of concieving which is about the same chances of a normal couple.

With my 2yr old...I did 3 rounds of injectibles with iui. With the twins, I did 3 rounds also. 1st round I had a chemical. 2nd round - nada. Then I switched RE's and got pregnant with twins. I know of LOTS of people that got pregnant in only 1 cycle.

Good luck!

When i talked to the place we are going they said it sounded like it would work if we did clomid and iui... but i want to do whatever gives us the higher chance.
