Default Advice needed on d&c vs natural miscarriage

I went in for my 12 week prenatal and they couldn't find the heartbeat so they brought in the ultrasound and found that the baby is only measuring 10 weeks and the heartbeat was gone. I have until Monday to decide whether to go with a d&c or let it occur naturally. He said it could take another month if I wait. Do any of you have any experiences with either to help me decide what to do?

First I want to start off by saying I am sooo INCREADIBLE sorry...I know how you are feeling...I had my m/c at 13 almost 14 weeks......

When I m/c'd I specifically asked myOB what he suggested...what was going to be best for my future with doing more fertility treaments and what was best onn the body...He told me that as far as fertility was concerned it would not make to much of a difference...there is always a chance of scaring or complications ...as with any "surgery" ... ofcourse leaving your body to work on it's own has it's own set of issues... I decided to give my body a chance to let go on its own...the OB told me that I could let nature take it's course and if it was not happening "fast" enough the could do a d&c but I had a deadline to decide....Fortuatly my body did not wait....I had a very intence m/c I had a complete loss in a matter of 5-6 hours.

I think you have to decide what will be "easier" on You....mentally a physically. My thoughts and prayers are with you...try to hang in there.

I am so very sorry! I have had 2 natural m/c's and 2 d&c's. The d&c's I chose because I needed closure and my body just wouldn't release it. The first natural m/c was b/c I didn't know I was pg, and the 2nd m/c was b/c my beta #'s never got high at all, and there wouldn't be much to pass.

Again, I am so sorry. I hope you are being kind to yourself. I wish you quick healing in whatever you choose to do. Unfortunately only you can make that decision....Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Also I wasn't ever that far along. But I'm sure someone on the board has been through a m/c at 10-12 wks and can help you.

Please let us know how you're doing.....

I am so sorry...........I have miscarried twice this year, and it is probably the worse absolute feeling in the world. I opted for the D&C, b/c mentally I couldn't handle the fact that I was carrying a little lost life. i still felt very pregnant and it was hard for me to come to terms with. Also, my gyno was concerned about infection if my body didn;t pass it on its own, b/c I wasn;t even bleeding.

It is such a personal choice, I just couldn't take the trauma of passing the baby on my own.

I am sorry.

I had the same experience with a natural m/c at 5wks. I wasn't expecting it as I hadn't even had the first u/s yet but my beta was pretty high. The way I see it is that you are mentally going thru enough and the pain that most feel with a natural m/c is a lot to bear. I would get the d&C, if I had a choice.

It's such a tough thing to go thru and my thoughts and are with you and your family.

I am very sorry for your loss! It is just plain unfair.

I had a natural miscarriage and a chemical. The chemical obviously wasn't bad because my beta never got really high. With the other, it was a very painful experience. I had labor pains and lots of cramping. It was really unpleasant and painful, but that was just my experience. I never had a d&c, but I know lots of people who did and they said it was the best decision for them.

I am so sorry you have to go through this...my thoughts are with you.

I'm so sorry you are going through this I know it is a painful intense feeling... I had a chemical m/c and the a natural one. With the chemical it was "just" like a bad period cramping for almost one week. With the natural one I was 8w and after what would be our first prenatal visit we were left with the same decision you are going through but since I started to bleed just by the end of the same day, and we had an international trip scheduled I decided to let my body take care of everything... I had bad cramps for the first 2 days (the doctor gave me a prescription that don't remember the name, since I was going to have a long plane trip) and later mild period like cramping for almost 2 weeks...
You are in my prayers!!!!

It still hasn't happened on it's owwn. No bleeding or cramping so we requested another ultrasound yesterday to be sure and there was definately no heartbeat. We are going to do the D&C tomorrow because I need closure and I don't want to compromise my future ability to bear children due to possible infection. Thanks for all your help. Hopefully we will be TTC again real soon. Good luck to you all!

I also m/c. I opted for the d&c because I wanted it over. I didn't like the idea of not knowing when it would come out. I teach so if it happened at school that would have been bad in so many ways.

Also when they do a d&c they test the tissue to see what might have gone wrong. I found out that I had a molar pregnancy which required months of follow up to make sure I was cancer free. Weird how getting pregnant can cause cancer!

With my results I found out that we weren't carrying a fetus in the physical sense so that helped with closer too.

It was a simple procedure that went well.

My heart truly goes out to you. I cried so much when we were told there was no heart beat. I'm tearing up just thinking about you having to go through with this too! All my hugs and love to you!
