Today, Wednesday March 7, 2007 the Washington Post stated that an extensive study showed that women on The Atkins diet lost more weight and had no ill effects, compared to several other fad/popular diets. The article is here: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn....html#cooliris
After all of the health articles about the negative effects of the atkins diet, it really is a great diet. After dieting with low carbs for a couple of years I lost weight and felt great also. The negative articles were about after leaving the diet with fat and cholesterol build up. That happens when the ketosis cycle that concentrates of burning fat instead of carbs goes back to burning glucose and other sugars. As the body burns the sugars or packages them up as fat to be stored if there is too much, the fat and protein goes directly to fat storage or is removed. I put on the weight and felt sluggish after I got off the diet. I guess the atkins diet is helpful long term.
Notice the date of the article. It seems that year after, year similar stories pop up about Atkins. Yet, every year it is treated as new information. A similar study broke within the past 4 months.I expect to hear a similar study year after year after year. So when do we begin to realize that Atkins is not only safe BUT it is healthy. When will people realize this as reality and stop fighting the truth? I began this lifestyle 6 years ago because of a study done through the American Heart Association. It stated that participants who did Atkins lost more weight overall plus they improved their blood lipids and glucose better than the AHA's own diet. Once this came out I jumped on board and have not looked back.
