Default Totally o/t....rising oil and gas prices.

Ok so I was talking with a gentleman today about this and it got me thinking.

He says that maybe not now, but if things keep going the way they are projecting
them to, meaning they say if Oil keeps rising at the rate it is right now, OIL could hit
200.00 a barrel.

Now we all know what this means, at 122 dollars a barrel, gas prices are at 3.69 right now a gallon by me.

So that would push them up to the $7.00 per gallon price if that does happen, which we all know that also gets passed on to us in everything we purchase. Food....etc.

So here is what I am going to start doing.

They are saying its only going to get worse, so starting this weekend I am going to spend extra money on can goods and other items that I think will keep going up.

Everything is going up everytime I go into Walmart. My creamer I buy just went up 8 cents. Now that doesnt sound like alot but when you purchase alot of items and they have all gone up, that really adds up.

The guy I talked to said it wouldnt be a bad idea for people to start filling their pantries with extra food and water and things like that.

So everytime I go to the store I am going to buy extra boxed items and canned goods.

Are any of you doing anything right now to help with the PINCH?

If so lets share our ideas on how we can save. I am also going to start clipping coupons. Something I have NEVER DONE!

It's probably a good idea for everyone to think of ways to live their lives without the use of oil and oil by-products. Not only will they be too expensive to buy, they will be unavailable all together, probably in our lifetimes. And if not in our lifetimes then certainly our children's.

Everything you do and everything you teach your children/neighbor/friend to do will make a difference. We are in an age again that is similar to what our grandparent's experienced during the depression. So many people I know are already feeling the pinch. We took a $25,000 a year hit on my DH's bonuses this year. I won't be going back to work now so that we can save for retirement. I'm going back to work to make sure that my kids have a place to live and food to eat.

And yes, the whole oil fiasco is tied up to this too. Crud. I'll get off my soapbox now. Sorry.

Funny you posted this stacie. I was just thinking of ways to cut down on our food bill. Milk is inevitable with 4 children, 3 of which are school aged. I was thinking more along the lines of buying all my meats from the butchers, all the produce fresh, and starting to bake my own snacks and wrapping them in plastic wrap. All other stuff from BJ's (a whole sale place), My friend also has a membership to a Restaurant supply store where things are dirt cheap. I have to start with the coupons real soon. I also need to shop at all the local marts and buy just what is on sale and stop splurging. We are spending 1100$ a month in food, that doesn't incled the 250$ a month in formula!!!

I was even thinking of making a Menu week by week so I could by what is in sale and get the most for our money. We also have a new car that DH just bought me and I will walk rather then drive unless it is too far. It is insane!

It is insane, my husband and I are actually thinking on going back to Croatia (DH's country) all his family is there, we have an empty and completely furnished apartment, plus he has some investments there and the last couple of years we had been receiving extra money from Croatia, what is the purpose of living in the land of opportunities if you can not even afford gas? I mean don't get me wrong, I came to US when I was 16 years old, from Cuba which is a very poor country, and I love this country, but I'm afraid we are headed into a great depression, it's only going to get worse and I saw this happening in my country already.

Things have been very tight for us also. I've had to work extra just to pay the bills. We purposely do not drive unless we absolutley need to and live close to where we both work. Sometimes Nathan has run into work to stay active and keep the gas bill down!! (6.5 miles) I've recently switched ins. companies to reduce our rates, buy in bulk and go to the farmer's market when we can. Finances have been the main reason we've put off our FET but we can't postpone it any further.
I've done the coupon thing on and off depending on how organized I am
Don't get me started on gas prices!!! It cost us almost $95 to fill up my tank last week!!!
