Default PIO help

Hi girls!
Well, it looks like I'm going to be doing the shots for at least another week and a half, and I swear I've run out of room!
And I'm not a small girl!

So, I'm here to get some pointers! (ha! No pun intended!!)

First of all, do you get your shot lying down or standing up? We were told at our injections class before our last IVF lying down, but I'm thinking standing up might give us a little more space. If you stand up, where am I going? How do you stand? Same thing if you lie down.
Also, one of the nurses totally confused me today. I had always heard, "high and outside" was the best. But this nurse told me, if I go too far outside, I could hit the sciatic nerve?? WTH! I thought that was why I stayed outside!

Anyway, DH is gone this weekend, and my mom is going to do the shots for me. Lord help us both!! Just wanted to get everyone's advice, before we go poking in uncharted territory!! LOL

Thanks!
Kristin

I do it standing up. You know where the fatty roll is above the butt, that is where I do it. I do it on the outer part ( I'd say about 22 1/2 inches in from my absolute side.
I don't know if that helps...

My DH always did my shots while I was lying down. Upper outer buttocks is correct (sciatic nerve is more central in the buttocks). If you do it standing up, my clinic said the best way is to make sure you put all your weight on the opposite leg from where you are doing the shot. That way your muscle is relaxed.

Dh prefers if I lay down, but when I give them to myself I stand up. That way I can just swivle around and stick myself... I can't imagine how that would work lying down??

Tonight will be my 41st PIO injection in a row, so I know what you mean about running out of spots. I have these hard knots everywhere... does anyone else get knots like that?

Yes I get knots too. Tonight will be my 4th PIO. Laying down has worked better for me after icing the area for 30 seconds. The nurse said we could do it standing up, but recommended leaning on a chair or table to support your weight. As far as the point of entry, imagine your butt cheek is a tennis course and go for the outside top quadrant below your waist line. Another nurse said to put your thunb on your hip bone in front and wrap your other fingers around your back side and aim for that area. HTH
